I've been prompted by so many things that all lead to me posting about Dress33's S/S 10 collection that it's all too much of a convoluted puzzle for me to piece together. I was pondering why I'm suddenly attracted to that kind of iridescent lamé that serve no purpose other than to make the tail section of a Little Mermaid Ariel doll. Then I thought about how I foolishly collected old Quality Street wrappers for a while in the hope that I might make something like that iridescent sheeny-shiny dress from the Prada S/S 07 collection. I actually militantly asked for all wrappers to be given to me at my old workplace. I ended up with more purple ones than any others.
Then of course even the mere thought of cellophane sweet wrappers led me to Fred Butler's necklace from her S/S 10 Hibiscus Ridiculous collection, illustrated by these deliciously kaleidoscopic lookbook images shot by Elisha Smith-Leverock.
Moving away from the iridescent fabric tract, my Dress33 photo-floral top that I bought from Joyce in Hong Kong made me take another look at Dress33's latest S/S 10 collection. This New York Times article that talks about Japanese designers not having the ability to step up to the international stage was the final lead into Dress33, though admittedly, Toshikazu Iwaya's label has been presented at Paris for three seasons now and seems to be one of the exceptions to that article.
So you see, all these leads pushed me down the path of Dress33 where its S/S 10 collection was filled to the brim with crafty ways of incorporating iridescent fabrics and textures. Each ensemble is like an explosion of a boiled sweet in its wrapper and for some reason I'm imagining Iwaya popping handfuls of pick n' mix into his mouth whilst deftly folding and twisting fabrics into submission on the pieces. Maybe with Annie or other bubblegum-type music on the stereo.
this is so beautifully creative. x
interesting post, susie. i also read the same NY Times article with interest. my own curiosity
was sparked by the label “Fur Fur”. have you any special knowledge on subject of the japanese label “Fur Fur”?
This reminds me so much of Lady Gaga, I love her!
japan streetwear fashion is unparalled in the entire world.
the unique and intricate mix of different styles give everyone, even just passer-bys, a lovely uniqueness. however, it seems like high fashion doesnt really bend over that way, which is a mystery since so many of the current trends can be seen in japan long before the world gawked at present hypes.
These looks are so outrageous and fashion forward! I absolutely love love love the colours!

Intricate and child memory evoking… but to wear? Yes, I know… When I’m playing the ice queen in the ‘the witch, the lion and the wardrobe’.
Those top images are amazing. Make me want to wear crystals on my head.
And the collage is like a bag of sweets. Thanks miss Bubble. And hello.
