Merino Boucle

>> It's going to be shorty shorty for the next few days as apparently Fashion Week by Berns in Stockholm is veeeeery spaced out in the schedule which leaves me running up and down to my hotel room a lot scrounging all the lush fast broadband I can get my mitts on (yes folks, I did indeed use the word 'lush' to describe broadband there…).

You guys know the score when it comes to fashion shows, this isn't going to give you anything ACTUALLY sagely, useful or insightful and anyway, according to this lovely piece in the Independent, us bloggers are nothing more than silly mugs who pander to brands.  Therefore I'm confirming all suspicions that we bloggers are nothing but hacks who sweep their readers into the eye of our 'influential' storm, causing them to mindlessly swoon at WHATEVER we post and that we are in fact evil entities sent from the get-go of web 2.0… I'll start with these merino boucle jackets by Dagmar, seen at the A/W 10-11 show this morning… with a clearer image from their lookbook.  I WANT.  I NEED.  So therefore, obviously, clearly, you all must WANT AND NEED too… off you go, my merry lambs to find these Dagmar jackets.

Floor length, thigh-split pink velvet?  With some slinky black leather as well?  WANT.  NEED.  Are you WANTING and NEEDING too?  Are you off trying to find the nearest Dagmar stockist?  Are ya?

I'll set aside the sarcasm for these Finsk wedges which I'm DEEEEEEEEEELighted to have in purple, white and grey from the A/W 09 collection but I had no idea they also came in this colourway of coral pink and black leather too… now where was I?  Oh yes… WANT.  NEED.  You will bend to this blogger's submission goddamnit!

P.S. If it wasn't clear enough already, this post is of course well and truly coated and slicked in a vat of sarcasm which alas doesn't read very well and it does ACTUALLY sound like I am trying to bend you guys into err…wanting and needing everything here.  This is of course a fallacy… I blame the sugar-drenched afternoon tea.

  1. Don’t worry Susie, I will forever and ever be your wee little WANTING and NEEDING minion. πŸ˜‰ That said, this is quite a lovely collection.

  2. Too late already swooning at another post. If only they could tap into your powers of suppling what so many of us desire. WANT the leather velvet coral and NEED those wedges – already got me seeking out stockists while I try to comment! Xx
    Katie.
http://Www.fashionclocked.blogspot.com new post- empty seats… An inviting treat.

  3. Baaaaaaaaaaa I’m mindlessly off to graze! Mind you I might mindlessly have to ‘acquire’ that velvet skirt if I had a disposable income to speak off.

  4. Itβ€šΓ„Γ΄s the same all the time, people love the underdog, they build them up and knock them down again when it seems they are getting too big for their boots. Successful fashion bloggers can reach thousands of people on a personal level so are naturally going to be approached by people wanting to use this fact to their advantage however if I thought that my favourite blog was becoming a mouthpiece for a fashion brand I would stop reading. Itβ€šΓ„Γ΄s this whole assumption that people are sheep and will buy blindly into anything they are told that I find very unsettling. And using a 13 year old girl (a very talented one may I add) as the focus of their negativity just makes the whole argument appear cheap.
Sorry Susie, about your actual post! The velvet skirt is my favourite piece, more full length for summer please!

  5. One thing in particular that caught my eye from that article in the Independant:
‘Robert Johnson, associate editor at the men’s magazine GQ, said: “Bloggers are so attractive to the big design houses because they are so wide-eyed and obsessed, but they don’t have the critical faculties to know what’s good and what’s not. As soon as they’ve been invited to the shows, they can no longer criticise because then they won’t be invited back.”‘
    Now consider:
    Become a GQ fashion blogger
Incisive, witty and so influential they sit on the front row at the shows, the bloggers are providing commentary at the click of a mouse, not just breaking news but making it too. GQ, the leading authority on fashion and the UK’s biggest selling quality men’s magazine, is thrilled to announce a competition to discover the preeminent fashion blogger writing today.

  6. Whenever I hear criticism like this about bloggers it does indeed come across like insecurity or even jealousy on the writer’s part. For me, anyone who lumps all of one group of people as being exactly the same is certainly not worth taking seriously. Since anyone of any age can have a blog, why assume that everyone has the same amount of knowledge and the exact same opinions and that everyone are mindless sheep? It’s rather offensive.

  7. Wow Susie your powers of blog-persuasion must be good, I really LOVE all this! Just checked out the article and I say Yay to Tavi, may she continue to cause ‘bow-rage’! Bitter fash ed’s? hmmm I think so!

  8. Susie, do not listen to the mighty few holding onto their waning powers. they are just bitter and afraid of the new world democratic pluralistic world order catalysed by the internet.
you have a fantastic, strong point of view. don’t even bother accomodating their insecurities in your blog.
F*** ‘EM. they’re on their way out!!

  9. I love this blog, I think it’s varied and personal and in depth and interesting. Saying that, I do think people tend to read these kind of blogs and ‘swoon’ over whatever you write, basically. I’ve seen the nasty comments, I know it’s not all fun and games, but at the same time I in no way see the most popular blogs as a place for fashion debate. It’s a place for agreeing on how awesome everyone is. I guess that’s ok but it’s a bit boring sometimes. Hard to think what you could do about it though, even if you wanted to.

  10. Ruby: You’re right in that a lot of the COMMENTS on the blog do tend to agree more or less or are ‘positive’… but I think people forget that commentors represent a teensy tiny percentage of the actual number of readers…well, at least that’s the case in my blog unless I’m reading my stats incorrectly… so I’m assuming that not everyone out there holds the exact same opinion on things or perhaps they don’t want to start a debate… gah who knows but you’re right, this blog is definitely not the forum for debate…

  11. hehe loving your sarcastic take on this whole thing, hey i would gladly buy anything and everything you recommend on here (if i had the money). but seriously, I find that you are one of the more independent bloggers, not one who is teaming up with X brand and trying to sell your stuff to us. I come here for inspiration and designers that aren’t featured in every issue of generic magazine. without your blog the internet would be very bland πŸ™‚

  12. New to the fashion blogging world so my uneducated take is I don’t think it’s the bow that’s in the way…I think their noses are too far up in the air. Isn’t fashion supposed to be fun??? Are we not supposed to take the opportunity to use blogging for a creative outlet?? BURN THOSE BOOKS! Ridiculous.

  13. Surely applying a little logic will prove that old media are just bitter. Blogs rely on readership to get a public presence, therefore they must have something worth reading or something that readers at least find interesting. If enough people like what they have to say, then they may have a chance of getting the attention of fashion houses. At that point their readership would presumably be large enough that their opinion can have an impact on at least some consumers, and then they are no different from magazines.
Or something like that. I started off knowing what I meant to say, but frustration got the better of me, I hope my point got across.

  14. The coral velvet skirt is amaaaazing. Thank you very much for your hypnotoad brain washing powers.
want. need. repeat. WANT. NEED. REPEAT!!!

  15. I merry little Lamb think the independent should give us bloggers and blog readers a little more credit!! Do we not have a mind of our own? Surely their critical analysis is just as leading and bias as our opinions!
Not a massive fan of the jacket but love the detailing on the dress! It is much like your broadband.. LUSH!

  16. your personality really shines through in your posts. I am sure it’s not just the sugary tea talking!

  17. There are indeed blogs out there that are hugely product-driven and boring, but that isn’t the case with ALL blogs. And I don’t think fashion bloggers are any more ‘compromised’ than regular journos- if anything, they’re free-er (word?) to be critical because they know they probably won’t lose our jobs and the roof over their heads for it even if the show invite for next season doesn’t come through.

  18. I have the wedges too in black! I wasn’t expecting to see them back on the runway but the pink is terribly tempting . . .

  19. well its soo good to see this information in your post, i was looking the same but there was not any proper resource, thanx now i have the thing which i was looking for my research.

  20. OK, more importantly. Where can I get a pair of those Finsk shoes in London?
Love you blog btw, this is my first comment!
