Lest We Forget…

Preen made a mini London return today and a good thing too whilst UK-bound (alright, I mean London) fashion afficionados may have been keeping up with what's going on in New York perhaps Preen may just have slipped past them when the New York stalwart names are grabbing your attention.  Therefore, LEST WE FORGET, it was a good move to have the show pieces flown back here for a small scale presentation that was on-schedule for peeps to touch up the embellishment that really moved this collection beyond the rigorous body conscious structures.  It's perhaps indicative of fashion's short term memory that means what was once a HUUUUUGE show in London can somehow slip off the radar a little and a little jolt here and there of course doesn't do any harm.  Mark Holgate may as well have left the CAPSLOCK on and tripled up on the ?! when asking "Why are more people not paying attention to this label?!" in his review

It's not necessarily a true cause for concern considering they consistently put out strong collections that perhaps garner attention on the buyers' side but I suppose more of a shout should be made when it comes to a collection that has so many lovely points to mull over.  The pelmet skirt over skirt combo and the longer silhouettes from last season still remained but became softer and more fluid with splits that went up the front and back further supporting a need for cold-resistance thighs (this is afterall A/W 11-12).  Quilt-like cuboids inspired by the North California arts and craft movement as well as floral patterns added extra dimensions to the beginning portion of the show, followed by some richly toned colour blocking and intricate metal beading that jingled about on the pieces.  With Preen having perfected their choppy proportions which for instance make a shirt and pencil skirt combo far more interesting than it ought to be, and adding up the sum of all the aforementioned parts, for me, it was pretty much a no-brainer like.  One that definitely needs more of a 'Hurrah!' about it rather than 'Oh…Preen…?  Yeah, it was pretty…'  Is moving back to London one solution to creating the 'Hurrah'?  I'm not sure but like Holgate, I'm keen on shaking some shoulders and demanding "Look at this stuff!  Let's be joyful about it all!"

  1. that’s exactly how i feel about this line. i appreciate the sentiments. i’ve been talking about them for about two years now, but, what can we do except keep on writing! hopefully, the Debenhams collaboration will garner some major interest.

  2. I loe the crafmanship of the items, so fantastic.
Thank you Susie for sharing these photos, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh love, love them.
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  3. The detailing and print are amazing. The prints especially fascinate me, but if I could pick a piece I think I’d go with one of the two-tone skirts. Simple, yet different.

  4. Hmm, I’m wondering if it’s the low lighting for the show (I checked out the video and stills but they are just as dark) that has me thinking that the many of the garments are light on structure- the silhouettes and cuts appear indistinct, in contrast to the rich textures and interesting patterns on view.

  5. the image 3rd from the bottom – heart be still!!! Just beautiful! Would live in that for the rest of my life :o) also love the 2nd from bottom – orange is my favorite colour and when paired with such opulence – ahhhh heaven!

  6. i really adore the way you take you pictures and present show. i wrote about you on my blog as iam a huge fan of yours.
you might want to have a look

  7. These designs refer (very) strongly to the knitwear/textile designer Kaffe Fassett’s work. I wonder about the relationship..
