Lurex Vortex

>> My magpie tendancies were temporarily muted by multiple prints and colour clashing, my main weapons of outfit distraction, but now GLITTAH, SPARKLE, SEQUINS will run riot here.  Those words are in caps because if you scroll to the bottom, you'll see that I've become shiny and sparkly in a similar obnoxious way to girly tween pink t-shirts that have BABE written all over them in silver glitter.  Specifically, I've taken to lurex inevitably like a moth to a flame.  I promise the roots of that love isn't at as gauche as the resulting outfit.  I took away some lurex bits from Prada menswear A/W 11-12 as well the glitter surfaces at Marc Jacobs (well actually, practically every single texture in that collection had my tongue hanging out in a disgusting slavish way…).  Earlier roots can be traced to Meadham Kirchhoff's hard glitter t-shirts from their S/S 10 collection which supposedly shed as you wear them, leaving a trail of glitter behind your wake.

Peter Jensen has cleverly got in on the lurex act a season early but timed to perfection now that one of the lurex pieces is now on sale on ASOS.  I went directly to the source and begged them for not one but two colours of lurex knitwear in a vibrant blue and hot pink to achieve this 80s Barbie combination.  I should/could have stopped at the lurex but then Bang Bang ponied up a matching pair of lame trousers.  Thank god there's a sane Uniqlo shirt underneath there somewhere to calm it all down a bit.  Like I said, I was after GLITTAH + SPARKLE.  I feel like I need a suitably bling-bla-bling name to go with the look… like Crystal or Chantelle or the like…

Alternative suggestions more than welcome in comments.

  1. Lurex looks so uncomfortable and scratchy to me for some reason! You rock it though. Definitely channelling Barbie in this look. The first name which comes to mind is Malibu. Ha, despite that having nothing whatsoever to do with bling.

  2. i’m don’t very love Lurex but on you it’s very nice…. i don’t say i try it but i like this post ;D
interesting ;D Glitter it’s too girly for me but you have an amazing style šŸ™‚

  3. These sweaters are interesting. They look new and hip, yet they still remind me of cardigans that my grandmothers wore before they passed away. I a little torn about whether or not I would buy them.

  4. I’m not sure I’m ready to go back to lurex. It reminds me so much of the nineties! You do make it look good though. Imagine it would look fab with some contrasting textures.

  5. Susie, I can’t say I could embrace everything as fully as you do… thanks for going all out, all the time. You are too much fun!

  6. lah-may trousers, not lame trousers (a clarificiation for those who read like I do.) Infact, quite the opposite of lame trousers. You look like you could be named Spanky McGradle.

  7. Suze. I hope you dont take this the wrong way, but you look really sexy in that outfit, particularly with the cardi tied around your waist. No homo. I vote for more outfits that show off your shape.

  8. those colours are amazing. That’s the kind of cross-styling I like since it is a really refreshing an sophisticated way. love it, you really have a knack for fashion.
