Thrifty weekend before payday was upon me again and what is a better than saving money and giving it to a worthy cause all at the same time. Topshop’s Charity Sale on Hanover Square yesterday, enabled me to walk through Soho/Mayfair without feeling incredibly depressed that I can’t afford anything despite it being sale season (walking into Concrete when the sale was on was particularly painful) as I managed to procure some weekend cheer for 20 quid and with all proceeds going towards the National Domestic Violence Helpline, the cheer was also of the saintly kind.
Basically people registered to set up stalls with the incentive of selling their old clothes being Topshop discount vouchers (the more you sell, the more discounts) so nothing was pocketed back by the sellers. It was a good selection of actual vintage clothing, yesterday’s old clothes and 90’s rejects, which surprisingly yielded some worthwhile things.
I snapped a living Alice in Wonderland at the sale…..
My buys included an Arrogant Cat ruffled lace-trimmed top and some baggy vintage men’s trews – the sort I would never pay for full price seeing as I’m generally skirt/dress orientated but a fiver for a pair of trousers will surely convince me to go over to the masculine side once in a while.
I also managed to construct another loosely C.Kane-inspired outfit on the cheap (this time, it’s REALLY cheap) with an old off the shoulder DKNY top (¬£2!) and a lovely wraparound brightly multicoloured patchwork skirt that will be worn in ways other than the Kane-way obviously.
The sales were held in London and York yesterday but there are sales coming up in Manchester and Brighton next Saturday so I would head on down for some rummaging fun.
