Souvenirs of UK Jack OK!

Today, I ventured into Dover Street Market to see the UK Jack OK! exhibition that was being shown at the Colette store in Paris and has now arrived in London.  Unfortunately, I was not allowed to take any pics but I wanted to share the products DSM were selling especially for the exhibition.  Some great, some not so much…..

This is a Comme Des Garcons special edition A-Line navy polka dot dress with a Union Jack Print on it.  I saw this instore and it’s got a whooping price tag of three hundred quid or so.  Now I don’t know about you, but this looks like a dress I could find on Ebay for about 5 bucks and all I would need to do is get some Dylon fabric paint and slap on a Union Jack and I too could be making 3 hundred quid out of it.  In fact the placement of the Union Jack just looks a bit random on the dress so I’d rather buy the plain polka dot dress to be honest.

We’re faring a bit better now.  This little suitcase is so nifty looking!  I love the old-battered, plastered with travel stickers luggage look.  It’s so cartoon-ish!  This one would be great to take on mini breaks.  Probably not something I could check in on a plane though since I’d be scared of someone stealing it on the luggage carousel.  I could even use it as an oversized handbag!  I did not dare look at the price tag – probably grossly overpriced but as with most stuff at DSM, if I had the money, I so would!

This is a special edition Fred Perry x Comme des Garcons shirt.  It’s a whole lot more interesting than the normal Fred Perry x CdG shirts but…..hmm…I’m not sure about this one.  I know it’s supposed to be saying ‘Look at me!  I’m a loud, out there guy who’s brave enough to wear the Union Jack with pride!’ or you’re supposed to wear it with irony or something to that effect.  Except I don’t like fashion for purely irony’s sake because it’s a little bit try-hard in my opinion.

These are Martin Margiela sneakers and are again exclusive to the UK Jack Ok! exhibition.  I actually really love these!  Mostly because the way the yarn is stitched onto the trainers and I’m big into tactile looking things.  I used to be a complete trainer freak, now, not so much (don’t have any days during the week to wear them!) but I would love a pair of these!  I think I’ll make a guy friend buy them just so I can keep touching the yarn.

Then we’re back to the bad again…  this is a key ring from a limited collection of accessories designed by John Galliano.  Now I know Mr Galliano has a busy schedule but he really could have done something a little more inspired than some blue and red rubber bands knotted together with some metal initials.  The necklace is even more make-shift looking than the keyring – it looks like something I would have made when I was 5 and bored silly.

Here are some cute illustrations by Paul Davis from the catalogue (can be viewed on the Colette website if you want to see some of the works featured in the exhibition)
