Helena Bonham Carter is notorious for topping worst dressed lists all over the place, especially in the UK in gossip magazines like Heat, New, Ok etc. (and probably in the US as well!). This pees me off to no end because if these gossip mag fashion editors had an ounce of intelligence, they would realise that Bonham Carter is not out to be fashion icon of the year and that her sense of style is truly her own even if it doesn’t conform to the conventional perma-tanned, pretty top and jeans ‘IT’ girl brigade. She herself admits to being the ‘Anti-Christ of fashion’ and doesn’t take her style as seriously as some. She also seems to take her costume drama roles and incorporate that wild, abandoned, Victorian, slightly gothic element into her wardrobe. Her love of the eccentric and the dramatic has now resulted in a fashion partnership between herself and swimwear designer Samantha Sage – together known as the Pantaloonies selling their clothes under the label Bloomin’ Bloomers. Looney concepts indeed as the label features mop caps, bloomers and camisoles made from handpainted Italien linen. Crazier than those, their other venture consists of jeans embellished with gingham, lace, frillage, vintage teatowels (??), pom poms and other fanciful frippery. The label is to be stocked at Harrods evidence that whimsical dressing is truly making its way into the mainstream. Read more about this fashion venture and see more pictures here.
