OC Mash Up

>> Two consecutive posts on the same subject is never cool in my book but seeing as I was a bit eager to post about Opening Ceremony's pop-up store yesterday, I forgot that I was also going to what promised to be an eventful OC dinner and night out just by virtue of venue choices – errr…. Golden Dragon in Chinatown where childhood dinner memories reside and Madame JoJo's, where I squandered many hours away at White Heat, nearly a decade ago.  I knew I was going to be in for a yummy ride what with Humberto Leon's mum picking out the food – loved the sight of seeing Dalston's fashion finest tucking into cha gee gai (fried whole chicken Hong Kong Style) and char siu.  Actually I also loved the slightly petrified looking wait staff at Golden Dragon, who probably had never clapped their eyes on Dalston's fashion finest.  They definitely won't have seen a mariachi band either, up on the stage right by the dragon and phoenix double happiness area.  This is a stage more used to seeing Chinese bride and grooms toast each other – not a Mexican mariachi band singing George Michael's Faith or Adele's Rolling in the Deep, representing the culture clash that OC are so fond of.  Then we got Marawa the Amazing the hula-hooper taking the surreal levels of the night up another notch.  Best.Chinese.Banquet.Ever.

  1. That was exactly how I envisaged myself hooping before buying my hula hoop… and then putting it into the wardrobe of no return. Hehe

  2. Poor mariachi…his hat fits really strangely.
I like the spunk of that hula hoop girl. She’s sassy!
