Toga in the House

>> I was just going to write about this S/S 13 Toga top, which I bought as a personal order and bang on about how the clear-miniscule-bead encrusted bows running up the sleeves, summed up the gaffer-taped, roughed-up prettiness, which shows like Christopher Kane promoted for spring summer.        Then I saw that the top had popped up on Net-a-Porter  this week and have decided that the bigger news is that TOGA IS ON NAP!  All hail the buying team for recognising the brilliance that is this slightly under-the-radar Japanese label designed by Yasuko Furata.  Save for Feathers and LN-CC in London, Toga hasn't exactly been within easy reach.  I used to get my Toga fix whenever I went back to Hong Kong where department stores there have long seen the light in Furata's particular eclectic yet refined mish-mash.

Toga sits within a similar generation of a brand like Sacai, which is also getting stronger and stronger and I love that they're establishing this post-Comme, post-Yohji generation of Japanese designers that are finally making their mark in Paris.  Toga hasn't yet done a proper show but it's making headway with a debut presentation this season (more about that later), which hopefully means there'll be more love for Toga in stores next season.

Still, Net-a-Porter is a pretty awesome coup.  It's an important stockist for any brand and best of all, when I do talk up Toga again (need to post about their debut presentation in Paris), I'll have an international point of sale to refer to, one that needs no introduction to anyone.

P.S. ¬£545 for a stripy top is indeed a princely price sum but I would say that getting Japanese designers out of their domestic market does seem to knock up the pricing quite a bit.  Also, a touch of those caviar-esque beaded bows and I promise you that you can dent into the price with your mental willpower.

  1. I love this striped top. The cute bows look like they’re encrusted with black caviar. I mean this in a positive way. Very luxe!
