It’s too hot to decide…

There is such a thing as too much choice.  I like to pick and choose from a conveyor belt instead of having a big fat main course.  Some people have THAT dress for every party occasion that they can fall back.  I prefer piecing together separates as opposed to relying on the sole power of a dress.  More to the point, I don’t have the luxury of having one stunner of a dress.  For the On/Off party tomorrow night I have devised outfits that will hopefully

a) Not make me look like a fool

b) Not make me feel like a fool

Quite a simple objective really as I’m in no danger of falling into trap b).  a) might be a little trickier to conquer so I have some strategies…

"Girls just wanna have fun" – A whole lotta pink that is hopefully more sharp than sickly seeing as I’ve paired the vintage shirt and PVC flared skirt with some inky black tights and vintage bustier top.  The cape also takes the heat off the skirt as well…. 

"Gwyneth-chic millennium" – Got the phrase from the pilot episode of that show Popular (was I the only one who watched that bit of naffness?  The Roland Mouret dress would look a little ‘corporate lunch’ were it not for the leggings and the Zara boots were a 0.99p eBay find

"Casual Sunshine" – This really is like a beach outfit shot with some literal sunshine yellow.  The Unconditional skirt is about the dressiest thing about the outfit even though it’s really quite casual and plus, I should get more wear out of these perspex wedges.   

"Caught in a Net" – I was unsure about the Ann Sofie Back fishnet body stocking but when worn over things, it works.  For some reason, my legs are reminding me of Gwen Stefan circa ‘What you waiting for’.  Not sure whether that is a good thing or not. 

"I made this myself" – Not sure if I want to be parading around my botched up DIY projects but here is a black trench I customised with an old gold lame dress worn over a H&M brocade dress. 

Me personally?  I’m veering towards having fun (my choice) or being caught in a net (the boyf’s choice) but you may think otherwise.  There’s about 9 hours before I leave the house again and I have never implored for comments on the blog before but for a better mathematical accuracy, the more votes the better!  Of course, you could just turn around and say ‘Ick’ to all of them…..

  1. I vote for the first or last outfit!! I don’t think it’s too much pink at all, it looks very tasteful. And the miu miu shoes are to die for of course.
    As for the last outfit- I am simply in love with that dress :]

  6. I say go with Caught In a Net, but tone down the footwear or else you’ll veer into OTT regions. If this is a more classy party you’re talking about, I really like your last outfit choice.

  9. The last outfit worn with the trench is killer – everything is really well pulled together. The winner hands down. Where did you get that coat? – stunning!

  18. I agree with e, first or last! And I too watched Popular…they were obsessed with “Gwyneth” for a good few episodes (or maybe even a whole series, I fail to remember!). Very strange.

  20. I like the last one. I like the first one too, but I’m not sold on the shininess in the pvc skirt. Maybe it looks different in person.

  24. i absolutely love the last one. Besides that one i like the yellow one for some quirky reason, probably because yellow is my fav color.

  26. I like the last one or caught in a net but remove the net. Perhaps I just come from the ‘look in the mirror and remove one item’ school of thought but for me it’s just a bit MUCH when you have the wedges AND the leggings AND the chain. Let the chain speak for itself. I don’t know. Maybe thats me putting my style onto you! Unfair! I also like the yellow one. I don’t think this post has helped anything! Wear what encourages fun!

  38. i think if you put the silver casual sunshine skirt over the caught in the net fishnet bodysuit and navy dress combination it would look rather cool otherwise the first outfit it my fav

  40. Wow…. I am leaving in about 45 minutes and I’m absolutely torn…
    The last outfit….is great….but I realise, this shindig is in the stuffiest clubs around….. and I t don’t think the trench and dress together would bode well…
    I absolutely have to wear hoisery though as I got burnt by the iron on my calf…it ain’t pretty.
    Seriously – 39 votes? That is a substantial number…. so thank you all for making this a safely mathematical experiment….
    I’m still torn between the net and the pink…

  52. And how did you get burned? By a fabric-ironing iron (sorry to sound idiotic, but it’s slightly mind-boggling to think of an iron burning, of all places, your leg!)

  53. Drusilla: I have no ironing board (yes….that is pretty dumb…) so I was irnoning on the floor and left the iron there and my leg brushed past it…. it’s pretty icky at the moment….

  62. I’m digging the Gwenyth look because I love my shades of grey, but Casual Sunshine is pretty snidge too. I can’t decide, perhaps you can play it completely stylistic and wear both. Half-point outfit change? Little bit high maintainance perhaps. Anyway, you’re lucky enough to be able to wear both, I have coveted your style since the Fashion Spot days.

    the first one looks really edgy but still really classy.. i like that you incorporated the neon trend into pre-fall styles.
    and the last one is just awesome! i cant believe you made that dress! and details are hot in fall!

  74. i suggested that last because i do like all the outfits but that one seemed to flatter your body the most. the other outfits seemed to have slight proportional imbalances? not you, the clothes. but i do love all the colours and the elements in them.

    Girls Just Wanna Have Fun! I don’t even like hot pink, and with the PVC it should remind me of my Barbie miniskirt with the ill-fastening Velcro. But amazingly, it just looks like “Fun.” With or without the cape.

  84. i am kind of frou frou in my tastes so i really like the last outfit. you look super sweet but tough and chic cause of the colors… 🙂 it’s interesting but i notice that people’s comments about clothing is usually more about what they would wear than about the wearer…..anyways. 😉 hope you had a fun night.

  87. I vote for “myself”. I think it looks way cuter than the outher oufits and flatters you more. Althrough the first one is pretty too.
