‘Diane Kruger? A good film actress?’ a friend scoffed. Let’s just obliterate her hideous performance in Troy from our minds and focus on a possibly good performance that is much closer to Kruger’s own reality. ‘Frankie’, the 2005 film directed by Fabienne Berthaud stars Kruger as a 26 year old model, coming to the end of the career and being disenchanted with the fashion industry. This film was shot over three years whilst Kruger was still modelling in real life too so it is not surprising that her performance blurs with reality. It was only ever released in France last year but in conjunction with the Fashion in Film festival (can’t wait for 2008’s edition as I so enjoyed the last one in 2006!), Frankie has now gotten a limited UK release at the Cine Lumiere in South Kensington, commencing this Friday. I’m expecting something a bit stark, bleak and possibly heartbreaking to watch as a model is slowly dimimished by the photographer’s camera.
