The Ugly/Pretty Play Shoe

  though I have just having reached the ‘I can skip, jump and hop in platforms’, doesn’t mean my beloved flats are getting reject status.  I’ve been a fan of British shoe label New Kid’s comfy/cute/dorky aesthetic for a while and even better that they have an e-shop now.  I was talking about Ugly/Pretty with clothes only two days ago and I think New Kid fits into that.  At first glance, you may think ‘ick’ but then the ‘ick’ gets taken over by an ‘Aww thats sorta cute’.  Like those ugly play shoes you used to have.  Perfect for kicking around and having fun in but not necessarily for swanning around looking pretty. Must be all the sun hitting London that is making me feel like wearing these with dorky ankle socks and going to a playground for some roundabout fun.

  1. It’s strange how I’m drawn to these shoes – maybe it’s the sudden arrival of spring to New York. I’m not crazy about this word – but they are kind of “quirky”.

  2. I like the red ones with the kitten heels. They remind me of Dorothy’s ruby slippers in the Wizard of Oz, one of my all-time favorite movies.

  3. I love that berry “Dorothy in Kansas” shoe and that white, strappy sandal is so delish. While I will no longer wear a platform, I do love a substantial, romantic (a la Twinkle automne/hiver ’07/’08) heel…but, flats have rendered me absolutely smitten, as of late.
    I just snatched up two pairs of Repettos and now I’m looking for a flat that’s more funky. So far, it’s all about UK funk, hands down. I don’t know how they do it, but UK designers definitely know how to take a fashion risk and do it well.

  7. I adore those ruched ankle boots, but I just can’t bring myself to spend money on somethign so impractical as boots with an open heel. Of course, the impracticality is part of what makes them so much fun. Of course, I can’t afford them, so I guess it’s a non-issue anyway. . .

  8. Wow. These are really great but unluckily they don’t come in size 42 ;-(
    I would have ordered at least two pairs imidiately!
    I hate my large feet…
