Last Wednesday, I sorted out the drawers. Yesterday, I tackled the wardrobe and noticed another wardrobe pattern – the number of white shirt derivatives I had. What I mean by derivatives, is a white shirt with a certain twist. I only took pictures of three but in total, it stands at eight. There are people who like to buy many of the same item. Like a friend I know who has a thing for Martin Margiela white shirts and has 15 of them. I’m too much of a deviant and rather than sticking to a tried and tested white shirt, I want to buy a gazillion variations of it. It does seem to be one of those wardrobe classics that designers like to play with because of it’s initial simplicity. I like hidden complexities like the Miki Fukai shirt that has wraparound front. Or I like very subtle but powerful changes like Jens Laugesen putting in slits at the armpits. Then you have the more obvious changes that take the white shirt into a whole different territory altogether like the Gap Thakoon dress (which I had to buy a size larger due to its depleted stock in Gap stores here…. great for my layering habits though!).
A rail of white shirt oddities is what I’m aiming for here…

I too like to collect white shirts, but mine aren’t as adventurous as yours. That Gap one is pretty nice.
You’ve got a stylish blog!

Ohhh, they’re just lusciousness.
Miki Fukai has really caught on.
I too have Thakoon’s Gap dress and feel like one of those cupcake dolls but maybe that’s because I haven’t tried layering it yet…
Hi!! I have Thakoon’s shirt dress too!!..I wore it lat night with silver stockings and flats!..
Love the Miki Fukai shirt. Great blog too.
Why does that Thakoon dress look so right on you, and so potato-sack on me?
ahhh…I almost once bought a Gaultier white shirt like the first picture. But I didnt because I dont know why!? That Thakoon shirt/dress was also my favorite.
i like the gap dress too. and am a fan of white shirt derivatives, and men’s and boy’s [the use of the apostrophe is beyond me these days] shirts that i can wear and just the white shirt in general because it bounces light off my face and makes me look fresh!
gar, i’m so jealous. you have that thakoon dress! it’s sold out everywhere. skaf;dls
the thakoon dress looks perfect on you. you really pull it off. kudos!
Broken link on the first image, Susie.

Pretty cool!
Stunning background.
The last shirt is my favourite. You put my closet to shame, Susie! 🙂
wow… great white shirts! it’s inspiring me to get one… all my other ones have coffee on them.
I just found the Thakoon dress at the Gap here in Victoria…not the petal skirt one but the other one, with a tie waist and a bit of pleating at the back…like you I had to buy a size larger because there was only one left, in a medium. But well worth it!
I’m going to wear it tomorrow with some cool Irregular Choice sculpted wedge heels in a blue, red and white floral print, and an oversized blue plaid frame tote bag.
Repetitive buying syndrome is definetly a common problem and I am a sufferer myself! At the momment I can’t stop buying white dresses…I have just bought my 6th and I have my eye on another one!
