Something a bit fruity…

I’m not often that risque with my content on the blog and I’m not even sure if this qualifies depending on how old you are.  So, without being too parental preachy, if you’re aged 13 or under, avert the eyes. We’ve had quite a healthy amount of fetish, sex references and tough dominitrix in fashion lately.  Prime example being Giles Deacon for Mulberry’s spike/studded affairs or his S/S07 collection.  Then there’s the copious amounts of rubber/latex wear featured in editorials (my past contributions seem tame in comparisom!).  Even so, nothing has literally been shouting ‘SEX IN YER FACE!’.

So let’s have something unabashedly UN-subtle that still works on a fashion aesthetic level. These phallic shoes are the work of 22 year old Michael Brown, a 2nd year footwear design student at De Montfort University in Leicester.  His main interest lies in high fashion mens footwear like John Lobb and Oliver Sweeney.  These however couldn’t be further away from that traditional shoe genre.  The strange thing for me is that even though the heel is literally and blatantly a sex toy, somehow the way it’s moulded in and combined with the monochrome leather and spikes, I’m not thinking ‘How vulgar!’ but actually ‘How wonderful!.’  With a few practicality amendments, dare I say it but I think they could even work in reality without illiciting cries of public uproar.

  1. i think my response was somewhere between ‘fun’ and ‘yerrrghhhh’

  2. oh wow, these are really fantastic. Actually I don’t find them all that overtly sexual, although they are obviously fetish shoes, and not something to prance down to tesco’s in… But the heel doesn’t look too phallic to me, from the pics at least, it looks very stylised and sleek, kind of like a table leg! (I’m not sure whaaat that says about me…) But a few less spikes and a bit more foot-space, and these would definitely be wearable 🙂 yum yum.

  3. Hey Susie, thanks for adding me in your links!
by the way you’ve got the best blog ever 😉

  4. The only thing that upsets me about those is that they’re “ballet” heels–ie, you only get to walk on the tips of your toes. I’m a dancer, actually trained to do it, and knowing how hard/dangerous it is, I vote for putting dildos on regulard shoes. It’s less of a health hazard.

  5. wow. that’s something else. i’ve seen the ballet boot fetish sites, and, yeah. this really reminds me of chinese foot binding, you’re not able to walk in these shoes. you’re bound. and that’s what i guess the turn on is. yikes.

  6. oh boo my comment got deleted some how. What i said what i was interested in the pyschological aspect of them. On the one end you have the heel which is suggestive of a sex toy and in a way, empowers women sexually. On the other you have the toe box which is constricting and would be almost mysogenistic for a woman to walk in. It’s an interesting balance.

  7. Susie, baby I have been quietly admiring your blog and you blew my mind (pun/no pun intended, your choice,)with this post. I need his contact details. Email me or do whatever you need to do. One luv.
