Get me out of these chains!

I really shouldn’t be doing psych analysis on a Friday afternoon when I should be thinking ‘Woo-hoo…it’s the weekend!’ but what is my obsession with oversized chains?  I love them on necklaces, the bigger the better and also printed onto leggings/t-shirts, again the bigger the better.  Is it some kind of a metaphor for a shackle that I like to put myself in?  Is it a kinky thing?  Is it another way of saying I like being weighed down?  Or on a superficial level, do I just love those interlinking shapes?

The brain is way too fried to be giving this such intense thought but considering how often I wear my oversized chains, something has just got to give.  It’s a FFF… a Fashion Freudian Friday…. gah…. just realised how lame that sounded.  Gosh, I really am chained…. to the shackles of my strange brain.

  1. hello, I have read your blog like every day since I first found it last month and have loved it! thanks for actually having style 😀 X

  2. I have some real huge heavy golden ones which I like to wear tied in lots of knots around my neck. People stare at me like I am a weirdo when I wear them but I don’t care:P

  3. If you ever get tired of chains feel free to send me your collection…
And I love the fff concept. perhaps it is lame, but then perhaps it’s genius.
I adore your blog, you are a big inspiration to me. Keep up the good work!

  4. Susie,
I can always count on you to provide a little fashion forward thinking. From a psychological point of view I would say that you are simply bold and have an affinity to “link” with like-minded people 😉

  5. ‘Or on a superficial level, do I just love those interlinking shapes’
I don’t think it’s superficial at all! Perhaps rather than being a [kinky/weighed down/shackled] concept, you’re just super-attracted to the beautiful aesthetic of those interlinking rings – rings symbolising continuity, infinity, eternity, the cycle of life … a neverending thirst for fashion… and all that. Um, yeh, perhaps we should both not go there on a Friday!!
Have you considered the lord/lady-mayor chain look? I think, if anyone, you could carry this off!

  6. hey i actually really really like the chains idea, they look quite good in a sort of cartoony (good) way. btw, i love the blue dress you are wearing in the first picture, perhaps u could tell me where you got it cuz maybe i might be able to find equally awesome things there.
    thanks

  7. Susie! Susie! May I make a suggestion concerning your blog page? What about embedding a search bar in it? Sometimes I remember having read something interesting at your blog but have no idea how to find this post again without clicking through whether each archive-link or each label.. and then it’s still pretty tiring to look thru as u posted so much.

  8. I love the chains! Too bad it’s Summer here, otherwise I’d be all over them. I’ll bring knit my own (not that I can knit-but I’ll try) when it starts getting colder. Maybe some electric blue ones like the ones you’re wearing, I like the way the color pops.

  9. These are HUGE (in more ways than one) on the streets of Tokyo here. The bigger the better, this fashion spans gender and age. Some have dangley bits some are just bold like the ones you pictured.
    ADORE them!
    Great pics!

  10. i have never seen anyhting like them before! and i LOVE them! although, i prefer the red one over the blue one, as it looks more like a scarf, rather than a giant, oversized necklace.

  11. Saw the chain pics on your blog.
Went to the unnamed shop on Brick lane today and saw a few chunky chain necklaces like yours but each link was a different fabric! Tres cool!!!

  12. Haha, I think we all could use some reflection on our different obsessions – why do you love chains and what’s up with my father only buying orange clothes all the time? I definitely embrace a more psychological view on fashion. Let’s make Fashion Freudian Friday into a tradition, right away! Love, Karin/jutta.webblogg.se
