Playing the Rain Game

Everyday I look up into the skies and I furrow my brows, thinking ‘Mr/Mrs Weather Man/Woman (I don’t believe it’s a ‘he’ or a ‘she’ up there…), when will you bring me sunshine?’ because this April showers (more like torrential downpour actually) thing happening in June/July is really not working for me.  Let’s not go there with the umbrella situation.  I buy them.  Lose them.  Buy another.  Lose another.  I’m not prepared to spend my pension on umbrellas.  There’s the problem of it being a tad too warm to wear a full blown trench coat or not appropriate (age or occasion) to be in a hoody.

So more often than not, it’s literally the London Lite over my head or if I’m lucky, a plastic bag.  So we’ve gathered I don’t fare well in the rain game.  However, at the O2 Wireless festival on Saturday, down it poured and people were playing the rain game superbly.

‘I’m channeling my nan on my head’ (polka dot head scarf girl).  ‘I wanted to purposefully clash everything and then give myself a pink glow with my brolly’ (rainbow woman).  ‘I’ll pretend it isn’t rain and look good whilst pretending’ (girl with a bottle of rose).  ‘We’re in girl pink hearts/boy blue check hoodies and oh look, my white Converse aren’t a touch dirty’ (The couple).  (My added on faux quotes in case you’re one of these people and you’re thinking ‘Hey, I didn’t say that!’)

  1. I remember the rain in the summer in england when I was these a few summers ago…I actually thought it was pretty and charming, and like a genuine tourist, I battled it with my sturdy and very handy british flag umbrella! I suppose it would be annoying to live there when it randomly rains, but here in ca, a spot of rain in the midst of the sunshine would be cute.

  2. Were you in the XFM tent with an orange headband? I could have swore I saw you 🙂

  3. I recently came across your article and have been reading along. I want to express my admiration of your writing skill and ability to make readers read from the beginning to the end.
