More lavish affairs?

During a week when a every couture show is being described as a ‘lavish affair’ (bar Givenchy though…thank you Riccardo Tisci for showing us that couture isn’t just about whimsy-led fantasy costumes), it’s hard not to have your jaw dropping and eyes popping out from all the lush images (especially looking at HQ’s… *drools*).  Then I go and find out that the first sneak images of the forthcoming sequel to ‘Elizabeth’, called ‘The Golden Age’ have been released and without sounding like a gushy wide-eyed fan, Cate Blanchett looks fantastic.  Most people will know about Elizabeth I’s over-indulgence in ridiculously expensive clothes and her obsession with her own toilette routine (worsened by the case of smallpox that hit her in her thirties).  The Golden Age should prove to be 10 times more sumptuous in terms of costume design than the first Elizabeth film as dear Bess sought to assert her power and solo-monarch status by wearing increasingly extravagant fashions.  Major popular streetstyle trends will probably never result from Elizabeth’s fashion influence but for the dreamy historians like myself, I’m dying to indulge in some ruffs, some breeches and now probably embellished bustiers, all moulded to the 21st century of course…

  3. Cate Blanchett always looks amazing, onscreen and off.
I can’t wait for this one to be out, the costumes will probably get more elaborate than they were in Elizabeth since she does get older here after all..

  4. Cate will be here in September for the Toronto International Film Festival. The director of the festival lives down the street from me and I am friends with his husband (we live in Canada 🙂 ) but I still have no hope of seeing this at the festival. It’ll be the hot ticket this year.
Perhaps I could stalk her at her hotel…
I just love her and I can’t wait to see all the wonderful clothes she wears in the movie.
