I hadn’t a single clue what Thrive, an LA-based label was all about until recently and I understand it’s a design collective that is supposed to be an incubator for fresh designers to contribute to the collections. My interest in Thrive only got piqued by the fact that they have chosen to allow Benjamin Cho to be the guest designer for the next couple of seasons (from SS08 onwards…). The high-low collaboration is something I yak on about quite a bit seeing as there are SO many high-street/designer collaborations going on in the UK. But what about the bicoastal collaboration? One might think Cho’s fashion-forward, out-of-the-box designs that makes him a bit of an NYC fashion ‘boy du jour’ might not fit an LA label, on the assumption that a lot of West Coast fashion is of the laid back and casual variety (generalisation alert!).
But it seems Thrive is keen to be a stand-out and by employing Cho’s skills, it a) tempers what Cho does best and his knack for headturning show-stoppers (not something that I see a lot at New York Fashion Week) and b) lends Thrive a unique voice in amongst the LA fashion scene. Bob’s yer uncle, I’m now yearning for some Thrive, especially the AW08-9 collection which features that Cho-Cho knot detailing, delicate lace and a bit of flounce, hardened by tight silllhouettes and strict lines.










i don’t like the cut-outs so much, but i like all the other stuff and the collaboration certainly sounds interestign!
The ruffled blouse is gorgeous. It seems sort of De la Renta or something, but it could definitely be dressed down. I love it.

I love what Benjamin Cho does, and this is no exception. I would wear everything from those pics.

Every time I give a talk, someone always asks, “That’s all good and nice that helping users learn is the key to
creating passionate users… but who’s going to do all that extra work? Who’s going to make the extra tutorials and
better docs?” Answer: your user community. Think about all the things a strong user community can do for you: tech
support, user training, marketing (evangelism, word of mouth), third-party add-ons, even new product ideas. And
that’s not including any extra sales you might make on community/tribe items like t-shirts, stickers, and other
gear.
It’s like he is playing with the skin too, not just the fabric.
