The Need to Bribe Backlund…

sbaw081.jpg

The ever-lovely and on-the-ball Diane Pernet got there before me but I don’t mind being a posty-copy-cat especially when it concerns Sandra Backlund’s AW08-9 collection in a palette that is a bit bruised and quite a bit darker.  If you read the story behind the collection ‘Last Breath Bruises’, it does make it all the more poignant and I think Annika Aschberg’s photography has captured the mood behind the creation of the collection.

Oh, and I’m making it a lifelong ambition to get a snap of me wearing one of Backlund’s unique knitted creations.  I’m thinking a cheap Ryanair ticket to Stockholm and me cajoling Sandra at her studio with some Cadbury’s giant bars might do the trick…

  1. Wow those knits are incredible–they are so structured. It’s funny but until you try and work in clothing construction you cant grasp in how impressive those really are.

  2. Seeing Backlund’s beautiful knitwear before reading the story and trying to connect the feel of the story to the clothing, coincidentally listening to Jeff Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’:), did give an interesting perspective. Dont know if clothing can ever represent larger than life experiences so that it passes on to the viewer/ carrier of the piece, but certainly the beautiful creative mind is inherently visible in those unique pieces of art.

  3. These are all great! If you want to find stuff like this local to you, check out Brandhabit.com. They feature designers and find what you are looking for online, but in actual stores near your home!!!

  4. i love Sandra Backlund, the way she designs such gorgeous and sculptural knitted creations! it would be a dream having just a sleeve of one of her dress/sculpture!!

  5. It’s my pleasure. You will get to try something of Sandra’s on in less than ten days in Hyeres and I’d love to snap you in it for my blog. See you there. xxxDiane

  6. Those are serious works of art. I’m going to dream of the purple one with the stomach cut out- and the color of the first green one reminds me of some hard-core forrest.

  7. The clothing is stunning, but the lighting in these shots is really blowing me away as well. And the super pale skin of the model creates such beautiful contrast. It’s just perfection, that’s it. Perfection.

  8. Wow, who knew that something as ordinary as knitwear could be sculpted so masterfully? Just gorgeous. I love the shape, design, and colour of that dark green one.

  9. Are they heavy? I wonder. I’ve never seen knits quite like those though 8) — great post, Susie!
