Some hanging tales…

I’m getting a lot of interior brainwaves at the moment as I plan to move out of my hovel soon, with the boyf and into what will hopefully be a lush pad or at least Hovel v.2.2 beta.  However, those ideas weren’t ever going to escape the fashion realms and one of them involves an everchanging display where we try to ‘artfully’ hang some clothes with some tags giving a bit of a tale behind them.  Not a precise factual history but just a little anecdote, a conversation, a story that is connected with the piece of clothing.  AKA an idea that I aped when I was reading Dreamecho’s review of the vintage store History in Boston which did the same thing, albeit their’s were far more well-thought out.

I only have my travelling clothes with me but thankfully none of them are in the ‘just a rubbish t-shirt’ category so there’s SOMETHING that can be said about them, so I gave my idea a bit of a practise run.  I’ll leave you to separate the facts from the fiction…

  2. I like the first story the best, but that’s probably because I’ve thought of puncturing many of those who have truly angered me with my extra shard stilettos.

    My favorite is the little snippet of a conversation and the gold…you can just picture it.

  42. That is pretty funny. At first I thought it was a real store that made them all, from where you got all your stuff. But then I realized you made them up and it’s kind of a homage. I’m sure more stores will pick this idea up. It is cute.

    Thank you everyone for leaving such lovely comments about this post…. some of them were slightly personal tales but heavily disguised of course…. I do think there is something in clothes that goes beyond just the aesthetic appeal of wearing them…. the sentimental value in most of my wardrobe means that I could probably regularly write things about them…. I may just do that if it doesn’t bore you to tears…
    We shall see!

  44. Another great concept and done well too. I think were I to have attempted something similar I’d have over-egged it and written too much the snippet of prose on a label is great, reminiscent of a price tag but a much better read, and much more fundamental to the clothing than a price and a barcode could ever be!
    Oh also, those shoes are amazing!

You just made my day, or evening as the case may be… History was my store (I closed it this past summer so i could go back to teaching) and it was great to see the idea of the tags living on!
