Now you see them, now you don’t…

Vrlashr The Viktor & Rolf x Shu Uemura paper clip lashes simply had to be done and in the end I justified the purchase to myself with the simple fact that I hadn’t bought myself new cosmetics in 2008 AT ALL (I kid you not… I just don’t wear the stuff… simple as that…) and also because the Shu Uemura lady said that they would fit the lashes onto you for free as many times as you want.  Well, that’s the sort of ‘dumb-down-false-lashes’ tutorial that I just could nto turn down.

The box was such a big and hollow one that I was thinking the bulk of the money may have gone into the packaging but looking closely at the lashes…well they are a bit of a sculptural feat so they don’t feel so terribly unreasonably priced.  I also found them a hell of a lot easier applying them than the normal finickety ‘individual’ lashes which fash mags often like to encourage us to daintily apply to the outer corners of the eyes.   They are a simple strip that sturdily attached itself to above my natural lashline and they felt like they’d stay put too.

Lashon The funny thing is that with my heavy fringe (which I’ve just had trimmed and there’s no way this blunt baby is getting scraped back…) from the front, you can hardly see the lashes as they blend into my hair.  But a turn to the side and there they are…black wiry lashes looping out in an extraordinary way.  I guess I like that chameleon quality about them.  The Shu Uemura lady immediately asked ‘Are you wearing them for a special event?’ when I enquired about the lashes, as if to imply that these are not for everyday wear only but on my sans make-up face and with my fringe, these wouldn’t look too out of place out for the casual nights out, gigs, pubs etc.  However…playing them up for the odd occasion would also be a hell of a lot of fun and for now it’s just a matter of picking the date, the place to set the paper clip lashes out there…say, the Viktor & Rolf at the Barbican exhibition opening party next Tuesday?  Gosh, I hope I don’t get into a paper clip lash tangle with a whole army of girls with the same idea in mind…

  1. Oh my, they’re even better than expected, really “architectural”…You look beyond gorgeous!!! Totally worth your money 😉

  2. Fierce! Applying false lashes ain’t so difficult, though, especially when they are as long as these, you can very easily grab and apply them. Just try it out, I am sure these Shu Uemuras came with its own glue, which I think will be quite good.

  3. Wow they look amazing. I have the same problem with my fringe too, it almost makes putting on mascara pointless because you can’t really see my lashes. I find if I go out and get a little drunk my false eyelashes end up half way down my face, or worse fall off completely, so be careful you don’t want to loose these babies (The ones I loose are cheapo $2 shop lashes…I guess you have 1 pound shops in the UK)

  4. fantatilicious! incredi-bubblish! just superb on you, susie!

  5. I think they look perfect just as you’ve got them: on a face that is essentially bare. Wear them for every day events, totally.

  6. ok i’m not that into make up either, but these are totally hot and coolios! paper friggin clips! instead of the usual stars and shine… lol. i’ve been wanting paper clip hair clips for the longest time. like hugee oversized paper clip hair clips.

  7. These look brilliant, definitly worth the money. I’d wear them everywhere don’t just keep them for special.

  8. Very nice! I’m quite tempted to go buy a pair! How heavy do they feel?

  9. Obviously, you do feel some weight but I think it’s more to do with my contact lenses than anything else… you will definitely feel something there but it’s not painful or uncomfortable or anything…

  10. Oh I am a big fan of false eyelashes and these are exquisite on you! Can totally see you running these all the time. An amazing purchase for sure!

  11. an all-new sort of fierceness… interesting to pair them with a nude face since it’ll be even more unexpected!

  12. They look completely Amazing! I would say that people would do a double-take if looking from the front and then in profile!
As they are re-usable surely with a few wears the cost is completely justifiable? (That would be my reasoning anyway!)

  13. i LOVE them! ommmg just stunning!
i just got some feather lashes and they look unbelievably stupid, with i’d got some curly paper clips, though i definitely can’t justify them with my current budget!

  14. wow, they look amazing! there’s something fantastically cartoonish about them… and yeah, they look perfect with a neutral face…

  15. Girl, I think you’v found your look! I’v never thought you needed makeup in the first place, but these look amazing by themselves! If I where you I would def invest in some more low key ones for everyday…just cause they look really badass on you. Seriously.

  16. Wow! Those eye lashes remind me of this feature with this fashion illustrater who was featured in ElleGirl a few years ago… I can’t remember his name. Ahhdorable they look great with your freshly cut fringe!
    kudos to your amazing blog!

  17. They look awesome! Very apt that you would wear it to that event, but I think they’d be even more special when you wear them on an ordinary day.

  18. You look stunning! I read style bubble almost every single day and have never ever felt the need to comment but this time I had to let you know that it was a great purchase/investment/idea.

  19. I was a little bit wary when you first posted these, I wasn’t sure how they’d translate onto someone ‘real’, but they look great. They’re very surreal, def. a double take sort of lash!

  20. After seeing these, it makes me want to go out and get some, but I live in a very small town. I hope that somebody sells them on the internet!

  21. Oh myyyy!
    they are amazing!!

Wendy B: My skin is down to a diet of fish and chips, plenty of salt and vinegar, washed down with diet coke…. ho ho ho….
The lashes are £50 a pop… yes, I know *slaps wrist* but like I said… NO make-up buys whatsoever this year… AT ALL!
