Mad Jetsons

I apologise for the lack of coherent outfit posts where I tediously take a ton of pics and write accompanying long-winded chunks of text – bet ya miss those eh?  Obviously without the ability to wear heels on one foot, it's sort of left me feeling a bit lop-sided overall.  Not to mention the physicality of lugging the foot around.  I think I was panting out-loud in a comical way walking to the office yesterday (something I haven't done since my last disastrous trip to the gym sometime back in oooh….2002?!?).

Anyhow I have to plough on because I'm not about to bring on any permanent damage for the sake of a heel.  So bear with me and my one-flat, one-heel method strictly for illustrative purposes.  When I received this Steve J & Yoni P S/S09 ensemble, for some reason, the mind didn't flit back to the original  catwalk styling – the loose hair, the cute/ugly soft toy in one hand, the geek glasses etc.  It may be the heavy dosage of Mad Men that I've been taking in but immediately, I squealed "Joan Holloway meets Jetsons…!"  Joan favours a lot of hip-hugging punchy cobalt blue and on the Mad Men blogs, there's even a post discussing the symbolic significance of the colour used in an episode (interesting stuff if you like geeking out over colour theories…).

So with waist sucked in, jacked buttoned up, any sort of formal stance that might be inside of me comes out to play….

The jacket has some beautiful pleated chiffon panelling on the chest and on the shoulders…

Then The Jetsons?  Well I suppose if I really think about it, Jetsons isn't exactly the most futuristic TV show that comes to mind but I guess it's that retro-imagined sort of futurism which is an aesthetic in itself that the ensemble reminded me of.  Oh, and the Jetsons aired sort of around the same time Mad Men is set in… I like pat-pat comparisons.  It's all too easy to say futurist clothing consists of mesh, clever panelling, metal embellishment so I guess it's better just to admire the marvellous technical feats of Steve J and Yoni P's use of detailing and construction…

Come to think of it the Steve J and Yoni P puffy sleeved jacket that I'm wearing to death (I fear the sleeves will one day de-puff and I will sob like a child…) wouldn't be too out of place in a 60s imagined futurist set… hmmm… another new category to add to the yet-to-start wardrobe database, complete with Doctor Who sound effects and cack buttons.

  1. you look super gorgeous, Susie, you are totally working that foot injury ๐Ÿ™‚ And that dress is really exquisite, I absolutely love the detailing on the skirt.

  2. That would have to be the most unlikely fashion connection I would think to make, but you make it so coherently!
I suppose thats why we all come here!
The construction on that skirt is something else, I haven’t heard of the lable before so thanks.

  3. It’s very flattering. You seriously look like the office lady of the future (in a fabulous way). If this comment doesn’t make sense it’s because it is 11pm and I should be in bed.

  4. I miss the Jetsons. Weirdly enough I mentioned them in a conversation today. i can’t exactly remember what I was talking about though. Shucks. Colour theories you say? I do know I love that blue though. That skirt is AMAZING.

  5. I really LOVED the outfit, and then I saw the details on your jacket… oh my oh my. I’m absolutely swooning over here! What a beautiful beautiful garment.
And your mis-matched ankle happy making shoes make are so cute. I hope your foot heels up well & soon!

  6. That is a wonderfully retro sci-fi-esque look ensemble!
The skirt is cool beyond the reaches of my vocabulary & Iโ€šร„รดm also in love with that particular shade of blue.

  7. The pleating on the jacket is so cool! Didn’t notice the one foot with flats at first either, looked perfectly normal.

  8. take care of your foot, you’re right, better not to provoke anymore damage for the sake of beauty…. the skirt is absolutely striking… good choices of pairing….

  9. The shock of blue plus the grey in the skirt with the gray skies/cement/iron railings looks cool. You look sexy, prim, and fab all at once!

  10. wow! love, love the skirt – the blue is gorgeous with white and silver and the detailwork is phenomenal. hope your foot feels better soon!

  11. You look gorgeous – I love that skirt on you. Retro but futuristic, buttoned up but still so very Susie Bubble!

  12. The entire ensemble is amazing, but I’m drooling over the pleating details on the bolero.

  13. i just adore the counter balance of blue and white and grey. it reminds of p cardin’s earlier work and of course, all i can think of is the lovely suits that donna karan used to have ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. I like the blue jacket, and I wouldn’t say it was futuristic(and is there really such
thing as we never know what the future of
style will be), I would say it’s distintly
modern. Which is refreshing in a world of
    sixties inspired bohemian style.

  15. ok style bubble..no more denying your hotness. you definitely lost weight! you look hot! not that you werent before…
    Jealous!!!

  16. oh forgot to say this is an awesome outfit! I need some diet tips Will you do a post on what you eat…thanks bye

  17. Wow this looks amazing. I love the jacket the most, the pleating is stunning.
Love how you have matching flats and heels!

  18. Lol – couldn’t you just have worn matching flats instead of the heel???
By the way, the dress looks a million times better on you than it does on the runway. Thumbs up!

  19. Oh, you do look totally Judy Jetson! Love this… (How did you get those shoes to match up so well?)

  20. The one-heel-one-flat situation looks cute. Except for the fact that, when you walk it looks like you’re limping.

  21. LOVE Mad Men!!! And that’s a striking outfit you have there, but I prefer it without the tights.

  22. Retro futuristic will always be my favorite fashion & home decor. I don’t think that could ever possibly go out of style when done well. And the flat with the matching heel, too cute.

  23. beautiful! all airlines stewardesses should be flying in uniforms like this amazing ensemble you have on to ensure us better service and a smile because they will all look and feel fantastic. perhaps its sacriligous to imagine this exquisite designer garment mass produced but one can always hope, no?

  24. I love that white tights combo. It’s not easy to style white hosiery. Great job! I also noticed those assymetrical shoes.
