Hobbling to Ireland

My traits of being a "Yes" person and a complete klutz has quite frankly collided this month.  Tomorrow morning I'm flying to Dublin as I'm part of the judging panel of this year's Nokia Young Fashions Design Awards where I'll probably send random bits of blogging.  Of course I hadn't accounted for the lame-ass foot, thus throwing a bit of a dampener on my first time in Ireland.  I'll be hobbling up to people and thus scaring them off and at a formal awards bash, I'll be wearing Doc Martens, thus inciting people to think "Couldn't she had made MORE of an effort and chucked on some heels?"  Looking forward to it…

Seriously though I am ish looking forward to my brief day in Dublin, meeting 20 fashion students and checking out their work, and also FINALLY meeting the knitting master (Sandra Backlund can have title of knitting mistress…) Tim Ryan, who is the student mentor and a) urge him to get a bloody website and b) badger him about knitting techniques…

I post a lot of videos and I know a lot of you don't watch them but I'd press Play on this one just to see this extraordinary re-construction of one of Tim Ryan's knitted (**EDIT** CROCHETED) creations, filmed by Laura Gannon… mind boggling stuff…

  1. I have been trying to remember which actress wore an evening gown with combat boots to the Oscars (years ago). Wish I could find a photo for you, but I came up empty handed. Have a good time; if the Irish drink as much as they have a reputation for, maybe no one will notice your shoes. xo

  2. I almost cried knowing that he unraveled that dress for the video. It looked fun, though.
    Have a blast, Susie!

  3. You rock those Docs! If I had a pair, i might get rid of heels altogether, but I’m not sure if i could!

  4. Susie i need your help: I’m looking for a copy of the latest Vogue Paris Collections, but I don’t know any good London newsagents who might stock it…
advice would be much much appreciated!!

  5. Have fun in Dublin and wrap up warm its chill and windy here at the moment! If you get a chance to look around be sure to call in to the wonderful Jenny Vander on Drury Street for great high quality vintage and possibly the nicest assistants in the country!

  6. Enjoy Ireland Susie. Drink your way through the pain! Be warned though, the weather is terrible here at the minute, really cold, rainy and windy – but if anyone can look stylish while keeping warm, windproof and waterproof, I’m sure it’s you!

  7. have fun in ireland! and to be pedantic the dress is crocheted not knitted.. but awesome to see it being unravelled like that.

  8. That video is definitely mind boggling! Have fun in Ireland. Since you are wearing Doc Martens, I suggest wrapping your ankle or wearing a brace underneath! It’ll allow more movement and less hobbling. I’ve been playing volleyball for a very long time and get sprained/twisted ankles a few times a year. It sucks!

  9. Great video – actually, it’s crocheted, not knitted. Still a great video.

  10. I’ve just watched the video! That’s so cool! – And I have to reassure you like everyone else – Docs are really cool – I’m thinking of wearing mine with a pretty dress to an exhibition opening tonight! 🙂

  11. the weather here in Dublin is sunny and clear with a cool breeze so layers and light jackets will suit.
For cute boutiques…if you have a chance to shop…are Smock, Dolls, Jenny Vander for vintage all on Drury St. The Harlequin just off same street for vintage. Costume beside this shop for designer (they always have a good sale in the basement). Circus store and Gallery in the Powerscourt townhouse along with the Design Centre on the top floor. These shops are all just off the main shopping street Grafton St. Dublin is tiny so easy to walk around and find cool little places.
    Have fun!

  12. true. i never watch the vids u post…hehe.
