A new monthly vintage hat buy keeps the moo-ness at bay and this month, I've got myself an April Showers cap, ready to whip out whenever it starts pissing it down (which will be frequently I gather…boo…). Rain coverage aside, the first thing that popped into my head when I bought this hat in Woch Dom in Paris was "Yay, my first nudge towards Amelia Earhart's style…!" Sadly, I have no perfect dropped waisted dresses, jodhpurs, long leather jackets, shearling or long boots to complete the Earhart homage but seeing as I haven't done anything remotely as groundbreaking as what Miss Earhart did, I don't suppose the look would be quite becoming. Plus all out female aviatrix gear reminds me of that creepy Eastern Jewel character in The Last Emperor who liked to suck toes…
Instead, I grabbed a menagerie of items that are a hotch potch of periods yet vaguely old and put them all together in the hope that everyone would just concentrate on the leather flight cap on my head… Ann Demeulemeester biker jacket, Graey panelled t-shirt, vintage fur shawl, vintage leather costume shorts, Chelsea Rebelle for Coco Career bow leggings, vintage lace shoes, vintage peach gloves.
That’s fabulous, just…don’t get lost!
Big love for the vintage shoes & gloves…adorable!
haha i LOVE the punny title!!!!!!!!!!
i am currently suffering from a serious lack of post title inspiration, will you please write my titles for me?? 😉
ooh you could be a pilot in a 1940s movie..
xx-LJ from SOS!
Ah wonderful! I bought a similar one in Taiwan a few years ago, but it was pleather with fake sheepskin..lol.. still looked cute though!

Amelia designed some gorgeous little items for Macy’s (with little propela buttons!). You look very cute in that hat 😀
you look adorable! i love those leather shorts and leggings. fantastic.
That is cool, you kinda get the pilot street cred as a bonus.
I saw this weird midnight blue velvet skull cap with a peacock feather in it today at a Victorian market/fayre. For about £6.50. I shoulda bought it shouldn’t I?
I like the Earhart tribute. It’s like a modern interpretation of an iconic look. Now you just need ot learn how to fly a plane…
love the hat

Ah! Brilliant hat! Love it and the outfits too! 🙂
xx
I love that hat and your interpretation; you’d make a wickedly fashionable pilot.
your wardrobe must be like…the Labrynth…and once you get inside, you style Jim Henson ! ! !
So fantastic how brave & dramatic you are willing to be for the sake of your fashion(s). Lurves the hat. 🙂
wow that hat is insane, i like it. Thanks for your comment by the way.

I’m still working on pulling off the whole hat look. It just never looks right on me =(.

Lovely outfit, but the hat is beyond amazingly super stellar. I
Fabulous look! Love the pilot look. My great aunt actually went to flight school w/ Amelia. I have a lot of old pics of them in their outfits!

love this outfit and those leather shorts are amazing. actually, every single item is pretty stellar.
The hat is fierce!
and that VEST!
obsessed 🙂
That helmet/hat is loads of fun!
I’m really lovin’ this look especially the vintage fur shawl which adds a very nice texture! Nice styling!!
ooo i love the hat!
I thought it was just a leather cap at first, but the straps on the side really make it look different. I want a cloche hat for winter but since the best have to be custom made, I’m sticking with cutesy woolen beanies for now.
I think the hat is very Natalia Brilli.
oh my god, so amazing you look great!
I love this look on you. You’re so unique 🙂
Thanks for the comments on my blog? I’m glad you like my dress-did you get my email about it? 🙂 The offer is still on the table. . . Or one of the tees, if you’d rather! <3
See ya later,
xox, mavi
AHhhh, typo, I don’t know why I put a question mark after “Thanks for the comments on my blog?” it was supposed to be an exclamation mark! hahaha
xx.
ERM. SUSIE. THAT HAT ROCKS.
How do you even come up with these looks? You have a unlimited source of creativity lady!
I totally dig this brand of vintage inspiration, especially when it comes from a feminist icon of sorts. Not that it really matters, but it sort of adds something extra. I’m not a fur fan, but I love the pop of rich brown texture against the smooth black and white, and the gathered drop waist is to die for!
hey the shorts from the Angels sale. Did ya end up getting the zipper on em fixed?
What a cute aviator cap! I have a more old fashioned version, but rarely can find a way to wear it that doesn’t look too costumey. Love what you paired it with.

Tiffany
i really love the hat, where is it from?

that hat is adorable!
and i swear i’ve never seen you wear the same thing twice… how big exactly is your wardrobe, and where did you buy it from? ;).

Wow! i love that hat!!!

That hat is brilliant! The whole outfit is perfectly composed – there’s some of that aviation thing going on with the leather shorts but then you throw in a little bit of pretty femininity with the gloves and the shoes.
On a slightly odd sidenote… I flicked over to Corrie last night and for some reason Blanch was wearing an aviation type hat and goggles. You pull it off way better though! 😉
Susie,
I think you should check this out http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5411207. The goggles will add a finishing touch to the whole Amelia Earhart’s look.

It’s Amelia Earhart- Susie Bubble style. I love the aviator hat.
i like it susie, i’ve got that kind of hat too hihihihihi 🙂
happy easter 🙂
way cute! i totally dig the vest. i just got a faux one that is shorter. i love it! it would totally look awesome with a hat like that!
Hey Susie!
Looooove your aviator cap and those gloves! You look fabulous!
xoxox,

That flight cap is so cute. Interesting outfit too, made me look twice to try figure out all the layers! xoxo
CHOCKS AWAY!
the hat looks ridiculous.
so does the leather pants over velour / velvet leggins.
otherwise you go girl – layering waist up is on point.
Four words I despair of…”on point” and “on-trend”…whatever do they bloody mean…
Thanks Hannah btw…ridiculous suits me just fine.
Very intrepid, Susie! Hopefully you’ll have better luck than Ms Earhart when you circumnavigate the world.

This is literally genius. It could double as a driving hat too!
An homage well done, and the hat DOES NOT look ridiculous. It looks bloody amazing! The outfit gives just the perfect glimpse to Amelia Earhart rather than a full of costume. What a great inspiration to influence a look, LOVE it!!
