Take Flight with Copper

Nine out of seven designers almost alway seem to name their muse as Bjork.    Sometimes the link between designer and Bjork is awfully tenuous to the point where you're scratching your head.  Sometimes you can't think of anyone but the Icelandic songstress when you see a collection.  That Yuima Nakazato said his muse was Bjork makes perfect sense especially when you see his A/W 09 collection Expansion.  The 2008 Antwerp graduate is supposedly just finding his feet with his first accessories and shoes collection but with the strength of copper behind him, he has already articulated something strong here that makes me wonder what he will come up with for his full blown collection with wearable clothes next season.

  1. Yep, I can definitely see a Bjork influence on these weird but wonderful pieces. Though I think they beat her swan dress hands down.

  2. I think that making inappropriate comments about variety in body types is “gross”, very rude comment.
But on to the true point of the post, the pieces are gorgeous, and very versatile in terms of layering and mixing with other clothing. Sometimes simple geometric pieces are the hardest to design, at least for me, I’m always holding myself back from over embellishing things. Yuima obviously has the simple/stunning thing DOWN!

  3. Haha, I loved Bjork’s swan dress but I cannot stand her voice. So as long as those clothes don’t sing when you press an electronic button, I’m happy.

  4. I’ll always love Bjork and you can forgive most for their musings on her!
Loved the previous post too on the bethnal green shop, looks fab.
I’m so busy so it is always a ttreat to catch up on your posts.

  5. that’s one awesome photo spread. copper has such infinite richness and beauty. i wonder if they tarnish the skin though…
