What KT Did Next

Kteliza It's a harsh line to call but given that I don't wear a lot of 'coventional' type jewellery, it stands to reason that I don't write about it.  I could sit here and write appreciative posts about all the 'found-objects' jewellers that are about, and in truth, there are such a great amount of them that designs start to blur into one.  Then there's the delicate matter of jewellery being too fine and pretty for my tastes.  KT Jewel for instance, designed by Kate Fleming has been going for about ten years, with one-off pieces being made from a diverse range of materials.  The results are of course pretty but just a smidge too delicate for someone like me who doesn't have the pretty/delicate gene inside to carry it off…

Now Kate has left KT Jewel behind to start KT Elizabeth, her first full production collection that is heavy with Italian chains, ebony and ivory sourced from Alaska and Siberia and black glass. The range is not about delicate one-offs and can be repeated but the key thing for me is that there's a bit more oomph and power behind the pieces that make me want to chuck them on in multiple layers around the neck as opposed to gingerly lifting them up. Perhaps Kate was feeling a change of aesthetic, hence her decision to create KT Elizabeth which bodes well for ppl like me…
