Segue

I have not had a chance to fully check out the stands seeing as I'm mostly chained to my blogging desk or in shows.  Still I sent the boyf off to have a looksy and he came back with UCA Epsom's publication Segue produced by their BA fashion journalism students…I shamefully forgot that I was in it as part of their article on fashion eccentrics and was pleasantly surprised that the article was a well researched commentary piece on eccentrics and their place in fashion…and that they picked out a multitude of my outfit pics as the background to the article. Fortunately the whole issue of Segue is online via Issuu along with past issues so you can read it there even though you cant experience the nice matt paper and its intoxicating smell…

Segue2

The rest of Segue delves into so many topics that leaves me thinking why they have not been explored in mainstream mags… the quintessential British knicker, contemporary female crooks, meggings as a trend, errr…Japanese novelty sanitiary towels, RAGS aka girls who want to bag a royal in nightclubs, whether Margiela's decision to shy away from the limelight is genuine or a marketing ploy….the list goes on.  Ok, so some subjects have been touched upon before but these are written with a definite stance and point of view with indepth prose too making all the articles pretty substantial reads…

The photography and spreads are also quite considered too… With no leaning towards one particular style…

I especially loved the profiles they did on various Parsons grads who I have yet to explore fully and frankly don't get enough press…(why is it I haven't seen that many New York bloggers checking out the student shows….access problems?!)

Segue8

Segue is a culmination of ideas, writing styles and stances that the students contributing to it could take to other publications in the future…however it's interesting to see if uni publications that start out as projects develop into something with a following especially with the advances of more zine platforms like Issuu. More food for thought for the distant mag dream…

  1. Do You Know My Work?
One night a hotel caught fire, and the people who were staying in it ran out in their night clothes.
Two men stood outside and looked at the fire

  2. This was my years magazine. There is even a picture of me in it (NYC page).
