I have a mild obsession with going to local auctions lately, with the hopes of maybe bagging myself a kitsch mirroed dressing table with a matching stool at the mere price of £30? Ok, that's a wild and distant dream. But home furnishing fetish aside, I was intrigued to find that our old friend Angels is once again holding a public sale next Tuesday. Nope, not of the tenner-a-bag sort but a Bonhams auction, where prices go into that special and exciting Cash-in-the-Attic moment.
Still I have been pleasantly surprised by the pieces that could sit happily in an outfit. Trawling through the catalogue, I picked out some of them which have pretty extraordinary beginnings… a bullfighter style jacket as worn by Johnny Depp in the Man Who Cried that I see over my grey AA vests and Preen leather trews…
…a gold lame robe
worn by Prince Reynart from the 70s' series of Dr Who with my Richard
Nicoll gold lame trews (exactly the same shade as well…freaky…)…
a tuxedo jacket also from Dr Who that has a pale pink paisley
pattern… a blue collarless jacket from Black Adder that has some
beautiful ruching going on…Julianne Moore's costume from The Ideal Husband. The teal and the
orange velvet is really working for me. The skirt would have to go but
the jacket as a dress coat over a t-shirt dress? …yessh…
Last but not least though is a Jarvis Cocker's faux fur jacket as worn in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Yup, monkey 'effect' fur strikes again and this one is also complete with hulking shoulder pads.
That’s the kind of thing I would die of starvation for. I’ve never been at an auction… but this stuff always bring me so close to bankruptcy.

Jeez these are cool! Shame about the mean prices. We’d all love a bit of Dr. Who in our wardrobes.

Bad for my saving resolution…LLGxx
ooh i do like the faux fur…
xx-LJ from SOS!
I thought the estimated prices seemed surprisingly reasonable, especially if you are a film obsessive, they don’t seem much more than the item would be new.
must have that black jacket!

I hope you come away with at least three of those things…at least three.
That bullfighting jacket is so cool! And the fact that Johnny Depp wore it is even cooler.
oh cool, you wanna are my friend?
I´m of Twitter
oh my those are pretty darn cool!
Man, wish I could go to this one.
And hey, I found an antique vanity/dressing table with stool for $100 on craigslist once…never stop dreaming!
these are so amazing darling.
Quite fancy Depp’s bullfighter style jacket. Wasn’t such a terrible film either.
/Cillian.
Harry Potter! Fauz “monkey” fur! I WANT IT!
strangely drawn to the furry jacket for that cousin IT look.. it would match my hair perfectly 😀 xxx
Ooh the lame robe is incredible! Wish I could come for a visit…
Bullfighter’s jacket, yes. Monkeying around? no (whispering)
that harry potter fur jacket is soo ferosh
mmm.those pieces are ammmmaaaazing, well except for that hair thing- i cant stand that trend, freaks me out
Wow… I like that first one, it makes such a statement, without seeming too much.
the man who cried, a visually beautiful film. cate blanchett and john turturro (seriously an UNDER-rated actor in my opininion) were the true scene stealers.
lol totally just youtubed the yule ball scene from harry potter just to see that coat in action. the stuff that’s being autioned off by angels is amazing, only wish i could afford it.
Those are amazing pieces! You should big on those!
The first jacket is adorable, but the monkey one…not for me.
Ooooh, I want that matador jacket! It’s so beautiful. I seem to be a sucker for gold details on anything.
I would love Miranda Richardsons Queenie dress from Blackadder II…in fact anything from Blackadder or Dr Who would be cracking thing to own.
Alas most of these items are well beyond my modest budget but I had great fun to trawling through the auction catalogue though 🙂
Sadly, I reckognized the black furry jacket right away. Oh the fashion perks of being a Potter-obsesee.
Even if I’m not planning on buying (which I most def am not), it would be incredible to see some of those lovely pieces in real life. I’m dying for one of those military coats, espesh the first one… and it’s been on Johnny Depp’s skin?!!? I’m sold
<3<3<3
That black fur coat is no doubt real, and made from goat.
