>>I'm keeping this short because I've drunk one too many French martinis and feeling a bit iffy… but I'm still conscious enough to remember my excitement over this new piece that has come into my possession courtesy of Fannie Schiavoni, who became the subject of my Who Dun It pondering. Actually, I say excitement, but it's tinged with guilt too because stupidly I thought the chains that make up Fannie's beautiful accessories, collars, gloves and general acoutrements were pre-made and that she just architected where the chains went. Not so. She painstainkingly links each ring to the other, giving her more control of how the links are formed and how the shape falls so that fools like me can gasp and squeal over a chain link cage dress/tunic type piece that will be slipping over a plethora of outfits. So eager was I when I first saw it that as soon as Fannie brought it over for a fitting, I slipped it on for the ASOS Ltd 100 party tonight where said martinis were had (more about that tomorrow…). Haven't been this excited about experimenting with a piece since… ooh… my last cage outing with Norwegian Wood… guess I can't get the damn cage concept out of my head. Sorry if it's boring you guys to tears…
Chain Mail Me
lovely! the chains look so nice with the heathered grey…
Cages are your destiny, don’t fight it 😉
The chains are great!

Very beautiful… The structure of the piece and the delicate look of the links give it a really feminine edge!
this is so amazing! would look perfect over so many outfits! where can i get one?!

Absolutely beautiful! Despite the summer, chain mail has been on my mind recently and this incarnation is stellar.
that piece is awesome. love it.mmm martinis
I would say that body chain is anything but boring. It hangs so nicely. I’m in love.
That’s the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while. Very nice:)
She links them herself? That is truly amazing…and labor intensive! She’s an artisan.
i agree with AngieMontreal, cages seem to be your destiny. they’re mine too, as i seem to live in a gilded cage, unable to shop (imagine!) stuck on this tiny island, but i digress…
so the chains. indeed, they’re very, very beautiful. love ’em, want ’em! can i go shopping yet?

Chain mesh cage looks pretty cool- I agree with AngieMontreal it looks like cages are great for you since you love layering!
That chain mail cage is out of this world. I absolutely prefer these over the normal chains everyones been using. What a fresh accessory.
OMGoodness, that is AMAZING! Am not bored at all, LOVE it, and hope you wear it a lot so I can live vicariously through you! 🙂
xx
The Scottish barbarian side of me is dancing a jig in chainmail as we speak… wish I could get my hands on one of these babies!
That is so cool. Of course, if it was on me, it would be completely tangled.
Chainmail is amazing! I also love the color of your tank!
that chain link would make a killer skirt!

Oh, my. The new cage body chain whatever thing just blows my mind. It looks stunning on you, dear.
i love the chain! awesome idea <3
This is easily the most beautiful example of the chain harness trent that’s sweeping through blogland like swine flu.
I like that this one deviates slightly from the usual slender chain used and is actually a bit different.
If I see another rip off of Bliss Lau/Low Love/Whatever I’m going scoop my eyes out with a spoon!
Ah yes….the chain harness epidemic! Slightly preferable to swine flu I must say….
The difference I think is the chain….I really stupidly thought that most of these things were constructed out of ready made chain that you’d get from B&Q or something…. looking closely at the way the links are joined together at different places, it actually makes all the difference with the way it hangs etc…
Fannie’s accessories are actually going to be stocked at Browns Focus and Kabiri (in Selfridges, Marylebone and Covent Garden I think…) but this was a custom piece so I would contact her directly for more details…
amazing. have been reading your blog for ages and it is my first time commenting – just wanted to say (and i know it has been said countless times already) you have a unique style that is very rare – a care free attitude that opposes the ‘fashion’ clones out there entirely which should be shared by all. have a great day x

Wow! You never, ever cease to amaze me with your creations – and the cage thing will never get boring Susie, unless you start buying ready made cages from TopShop!
Also loving the one sleeve dress you are wearing under it. Vintage??
This is such a cool concept. Maybe cages are just your ‘thing’? You rock it so well! i couldn’t be less bored with you.
Oh wow, I was just looking some instructions for chainmail and bumped to this! I would certainly love some chainmail accessories for myself… …and that looks awesome on you!
what a clever idea – its a little bit ’80’s brought up to date – love it. I like your shots better than the designers – they look really fab on you.
when one mentions chain mails, they usually remind me of the ones they used in Lord of the Rings films. Chains sometimes feel very medieval, very rustic!
THAT is an amazing piece. Even moreso that it’s completely handmade. Yow!
this is so COOL! funky, beautiful, and original I love it! another amazing post by susie bubble
love the fashion kiwi

The chains look so cool…I’ve seen them used as embellishment on lots of things recently, really nice for summer.
i never get tired of chain jewelry.
I have seen these on herviabazaar.com they look amazing.
