The Catch Up

I'm playing poor catch-up here but that's what happens when it gets a bit muggier and I start hallucinating about drinking Pimms and eating strawberries (yes, I'm once again pysched that Wimbledon has come round again…).  I'm getting inundated with emails from graduates and whilst I'm trying very hard to answer them one by one and deal with each one appropriatley, I'm also not trying to inundate you guys with posts that bore you to tears.  However, I couldn't pass up posting these backstage images taken at the London College of Fashion BA show by Morgan O'Donovan… I only hesitated because a lot of the pieces in the show will be making the ASOS Ltd 100 which I'm posting about separately so wanted to ensure there was no overlap…

The deets that freaked…

Annick Littlewood's paper dollies inspired cut-outs that were mind bogglingly detailed…it's the Pocahontas frock that Pocahontas never had…

Neliana Fuenmayor concentrated on sustainable design with her collection using fair traded alpaca wool, and trying to achieve the aesthetic of fur with her materials.  The glasses were also made using different kinds of waste wood… which is already the basis of an accessories business right there…

Sheer layers all coming together and falling apart simultaneously was courtesy of Kim Hughson…

Irene Brandt explored the idea of fragility with garments that at first glance looked like they might disappar but had a strength when styled together and paired with big chunky wedge boots.

Bahar Alipour probably employed the best styling tricks in the book with her collection that harks back to various fashion moments in the latter half of the 20th century whilst sticking to the overall theme of Sardinian dress.

  1. Woah! I’m flabbergasted at the sheer talent in this post! I would list my favorites but I’d end up listing all of them but 2. I can see the sheer “falling-apart” top being a best-seller at Brown’s.

  2. There is SO much talent here. I love the textures; LOVE them!!! Those cut out dresses are fantastic.

  3. Love the cut out feather motif. Was lucky enough to go the DeMontford show a couple of weeks ago and was really impressed with the talent there (especialy the shoes!) Detail and cut work seems to be big for this years grads.

  4. I love ur blog!!! dunno why I can’t open any blogs from blogspot!! >.< the government blocked all of them obviously...damn it!!

  5. I’m an Environmental Studies student, so sustainable fashion gets me excited. Sustainable fashion that is actually beautiful and just more than bamboo shirts gets me hot and bothered.

  6. Bahar Alipour & Irene Brandt’s collections are my fave, absolutely STUNNING! Love the laser cut on the latter, and the beautiful luxe fabrics & cut of the former!
    xx

  9. My god, what an effing busy day I had. Looking at your post was the right battery to re-charge me. Honestly Susie, I love your blog. My comments may not always reflect that, and my gratitude for the amount of work you that put into this. I don’t know where you come up with this stuff, it’s a never ending outlet of inspiration, and for that I thank you.
