I Have Blood on My Hands

It's all shift a-go-go for accessories designer Borba Margo whose structurally-impacting bags and belts have always been distinctive.  That said, the duo Borba DaSilva and Jessika Margo are not about to rest on their leather laurels as they have upped their game by moving their production to Italy where the quality can be upped a further notch.  With this change, is it weird that I detect a newfound sensuality and luxurious vigour in their new A/W 10-11 collection?  First things first, Borba Margo have collaborated with digital print artist Ricardo Matos to dissect 15th century stained glass windows and extract a silkscreen print.  This print then shows up on bags, belts, tassels and gloves as shapes that can be interpreted as animal prints, paint splatters or how I see it; fake blood.  Horror b-movies come to mind with the almost ketchup-like splatters of red that on the gloves especially look blood-like and I mean that in the most luxurious way possible.

Secondly, even the way that Borba Margo have employed flocking, subtly contrasting subdued shades of navy and burgandy and added embellishments like tassels all seem to soften the edge on their previously 'hard' aesthetic.  There's something in the collection recipe that has enriched the their work immensely and perhaps along with this aesthetic shift and factory change-up, heralds a new stage in Borba Margo's label timeline.  Suffice to say, I'm after as many fake blood splatters as possible… I want blood hanging off my shoulders on tassels, on a U-shaped bag that might contain something lethal and definitely on the gloves that would prompt me to make goulish evil laughs whenever I have them on…

  1. Yes some of these items look like the blood splatters of some terrible misfortune.. yet the tassles seem to justify them entirely… who knows.
    I need the tassled strap segment bag or tassle clutch… i’ll pass on the long gloves… just a bit close to the bone for now…. ( non pun intended!) katie

  6. I still have my B&M belt… from when they did mens gear… it’s not a patent womens jobby…boasting all these iridescent blushes everywhere….thank fuck. As much as I’d love to look like a thailando-ghetto-superstar…’cause baby that’s what you are…comin’ from afar…reachin’ for the stars…run away with me…to another place…we can rely on each other…uh uhhhh…from one corner to another…’ yeeeeeee, old-skool…

    and the way the leather of the belt looks decayed but is re-enforced by the hardware YAY tassels are SO much fun

  17. Wow, I absolutely love this stuff! Thanks for posting, for a fashion student I’m considerably out-of-the-loop on developments such as this… I regularly thank the lord that you exist!
    That clutch bag is so gorgeous. And I never like clutch bags (I always think they are a recipe for disaster. I’d just leave it somewhere!).

  18. Those multi tassel straps are genius. Not a huge fan of the gloves, but the bags and belts are A*. The stained glass reference is really interesting… and who doesn’t love a bit of flocking…

  22. Those faux blood splatters are amazing. I think I like them especially on the tassles, it’s a cool contrast/additional detail. And oh-so-tongue-in-cheek.
