Wardrobing Mess

>> Airport delay = tiddy bitty post.  The same question still persists and everyday a lone email comes asking "How DO you store your clothes?" and I squirm as though I'm being confronted in person.  What can I say, it's an embarrassing situation – highlighted more so by this Wardrobe feature that Hong Kong magazine Milk X (the monthly version of the weekly…) did a while back.  I don't treat nice clothes how they should be treated.  Scratch that, I don't treat clothes the way any normal/mundane clothes should be treated.  "Salted cabbage" in Cantonese is quite literally what my mother has always described my clothes as – i.e. wrinkled, scrunched up and piled up high.  Of course, in this instance it's not easy being stacked up against the likes of Sarah Rutson, Yasmin Sewell and Humberto Leon but help is on it way with a house move in August (I'm going on a flat hunting rampage next week….).  I fear the piles of salted cabbage will just grow and spread themselves out even if I did get a bigger space… another Brick Lane street sale in August is required me thinks…

  1. wow you have so much clothes~
Is it hard to find a piece of clothing when you need to? πŸ™‚

  2. Oh Susie, Susie… can I do a cull? I’ve got crazy eyes right now, and I’m ready to be ruthless, yet sympathetic.

  3. Haha, giam chai. I love that term. It sums it up so succinctly. If you’re holding another Brick Lane sale, September please?

  4. My wardrobe is called the “mountain-of-clothes-spilling-on-the-floor-and-all-over-the place!” too. I have two wardrobes, and chest of drawers, and a couple of suitcases hidden away, yet clothes, shoes, knickers and the like are EVERYWHERE. Except I most probably don’t have as many clothes as you, so I cannot imagine what your flat is like!

  5. OMG I am another reader who feels better about her stuffed wardrobe. I am currently working on my closet and bookshelves to shrink them a bit. I am the opposite, I am moving into a smaller space. Good look flat hunting.

  6. Wow! That looks like “used clothing whole-seller’s shelf”!! Let’s get a huge walk-in closet.

  7. surely you have more clothes hiding somewhere because those in the pictures are really ‘salted cabbage’ and don’t say that’s all you have. where are those wacky and one-off pieces? Please let me know if you are clearing them by any chance.

  8. When I look at my closet it looks like I’ll have what to wear in following 3 lives… or have a spare body or two to wear it all….

  9. That is one helluva lot of clothing Susie. Would love to root around in there with you and hear the stories behind some pieces!
Have to say I’m mildly relieved (okay very relieved) to know I’m not the only one with clothes piled up. It’s a total gongshow over here and not quite sure how to deal with it…3 closets, 3 dressers, large bins in the garage….and counting.

  10. Gah… it’s embarrassing…
    EJ: I WILL cull…I promise!
Rita: There is a rail with the more special pieces but I onlhy did a tight shot of the rail…it’s actually breaking and heaving with the weight…I need some of those industrial ones…
Carrie: I’m actually trying to come up with a way of cataloguing everything… just as a personal pet project!

  11. Woahhh, I’m jealous of your clothes! Serious love for that collage-style dress! However the closet could do with a good tidy up hahah. Never the less it’s heaven.. okay maybe messy heaven but y’know πŸ™‚

  12. Thank you for sharing – it’s cute and refreshing to know you keep your clothes that way. Now I feel way less guilty about my own salted cabbage :-s

  14. LOL
This reminds me of my closet..
Every week I say that I’m gonna work on it during the weekend..
I’ve just bought an extra wardrobe to try and put some order.. I keep losing stuff because of this complete chaos.
    I’ve been looking for a D&G shirt I since last year!!lol
I never got the chance to wear it!! It’s there somewhere but I can’t find it πŸ™

  15. HAHAHAA…salted cabbage=ΓˆΟ€Ο€Γ‹Γ¨ΓΊ
