>> You know what feels REALLY great and cool Рthat's cool as in temperature, not attitude Рwhen you put perspex necklaces in the freezer and then take them out for wearing on hot summer's day. Somehow the plastic manages to retain the cool temperature and it's sort of slightly more discreet than wiping one's sweaty décolletage. Plus, it just feels really, really great.
This slightly odd heat-combat tactic entered my head when I saw Otto's first collection of necklaces. Designer Roula Nassar is based in New York and aside from the laser cutting, most of the necklaces are worked by hand seen in the binding with the coated wire which form 'stitches' in the necklace. Perspex jewellery whilst having its obvious advantages to not aggravating my allergies isn't often seen as 'luxurious' and whilst I like my jewellery with a dose of the kitsch and the literal, I also like what Nassar has done to elevate the perspex. It's the polish and finishing that particularly make them have that extra 'gloss' (that's both a physical and luxurious one…). Nassar will be working on a lucite/leather clutch project next. Maybe I'll stick that in the fridge too for a hand-cooling effect…
Otto is currently stocked online on Anica which after a bit of browsing, I found that Shab D, creator of those spaced out tie dye print basics that I loved so much, has moved onto more elegant offerings with these watercolour print dresses that come with a simplified obi belt. These are the type of dresses that are visually calming, the sort that you can well imagine wafting and moving around in serenely – no need for any fridge action here.
That jewellery is amazing Susie. We want it. Snaps for OTTO x
Those dresses are absolutely gorgeous! wow
Wonderful dresses, the colours are just beautiful, I’m a big fan of ‘intense but muted’. I’m going to try to put my perspex necklace in the freezer too – it’s 37¬∞C here today!
I love those dresses…so effing beautiful. Not surprised at the price tag though, you just can’t produce that kind of shit on the cheap.

I never thought of that – now, I must get a perspex necklace simply for the purpose of freezing it. And those dresses are gorgeous! So perfect for lazy summer days (and nights).

ha ha, great idea about the cooling down in this summer heat. the necklaces look very cool, they seem a little avant-garde, but i must say i loved the detail and that metal wire stitching. the effect of the transparent plastic is great (depending on the colour of clothing).

Freezing jewellery is an awesome idea, I must go and put everything I own in the freezer… Would knickers be a bit too far?

Otto’s necklaces are beautiful. I wanted to reach out and touch my computer screen when I saw them online at Anica. I’m so happy you mentioned them. Anica is my favorite store in SF, and one of my favorite stores online. I always turn to them when looking for new designers.

Ah..those necklaces! I so want to take them away from the T-shirts in the pics and see them fully styled, by you for example! For starters, I can already see the mauve and the mint green ones worn with the frocks below, non? BTW, the bouncy “silk scarf” fabric of those frocks is what makes them stand out for me; great outfit starter pieces.
Simple is usually best! Such a classic example of that-very cool. The necklace/T-shirt look is so casual-chic. Our fave.
the green necklace… lust.

I like the colours of the dresses but the accessories are too ‘tribal’ for my taste..
Those dresses are gorgeous and the clear pink necklace <3<3<3
Haha, I must try that with my necklaces!
Love the print and the colors of that dress and the many ways you can wear it! <3

now that is a tip! I think that first little para sums up why so many people read you Susie… you’re a babe 🙂
The dresses are pretty!
Those necklaces are very expensive pieces of plastic junk.
$500 for something that won’t even break down in a landfill? Gross.
