Cry for Help

So this will probably rank as one of Style Bubble’s oddest posts but I’m hoping people will understand my brutal honesty and say that this is a cry of desperation.  I have always maintained that I’m very happy/content with my non-fashion related full-time job, leaving me to enjoy fashion and write this blog as an extra-curricular activity.

However of late, I’m coming to the point whereby I’m juggling a gazillion things at one time and amidst my confusion, I have suddenly taken on more than I can handle.  As I ponder what it is that I would like to do with my life, I’m trying various things on for size and branching out from my blogging cocoon.  Which gets me to my next point.  I will be styling a shoot on the 25th Nov and with my body tied to my office desk on the weekdays, I’m lookng for someone who is willing and able to pick up clothes for the shoot on my behalf on the 23rd and returning them on the 26th, after the shoot.

See how odd this is becoming?  Ideally, that person will be very familiar with getting around London and be quite bus/tube fluent.  I can cover travel and lunch costs as well as a nominal wage.  By no means am I reaching out through the blog because I have some sort of self-inflated idea of myself (I don’t flatter myself that people out there would lavish the thought of working for me…) but anyone with a few free days and a love for handling clothes might get some benefits out of it.   If anyone is at all interested, please email me for further details.   Or you can laugh at the ludicrous-ness of this post.  Either reaction would be much appreciated.

  2. hi susie, i would love to helpHi Susie, my name is Katie Major, im 20 & I live in Berkshire which is only an hour away from London by train. I recently finished a Diploma in Fashion & Textiles & I would be thrilled to help you. I’d love the opportunity to get back down to London as I’m just not there as much as I would love to be. I work part-time in retail (Topshop baby yeah!) so I do have that free time available…i cant seem to send you an email but I really really hope to hear back from you and if not, that’s cool!
Anyway thanks for reading this, and I read your blog religiously every morning with a big ‘ol cup of joe!
    Thanks x

  3. ah susie! good luck finding someone! If i was in london i’d offer to help but it already looks you have more than qualified people helping! Please take care of yourself susie!

  4. oh god, how i’d wish to! wearing your creations and doing a fashion-thing. but berlin seems a bit too far away, doesn’t it? 😉 but there are dozens of people loving to do that job obviously. sigh…
    good luck girl!

  5. I don’t think you ever had to worry – the internet can be a very kind place, as evidenced by these comments.

  6. oh love, i wish i could help… but i know what you mean… i’m doing a shoot satruday… and fashion things are coming up, but i have not the time during the week to do a great job.
it’s really difficult to choose between what is needed right now, and taking a chance on the future… because spreading myself too thin, i’ve noticed i can’t be good to anyone if i’m trying to be there for everyone.
bleh… don’t mean to vent, but i just thought it may be appropriate…
    🙂
    lots of love!

  7. Lady Cov: Spreading myself too thinly…I’ve been accused of that very thing… and it’s getting me down and others around me too… my hands are tied at the moment but hopefully there will be clarity at the end of this muggy tunnel…
In any case, I’m SO grateful for the offers that have come through. Seriously, I’m a little shocked that ppl have even offered to help for free….
Hopefully whoever ends up helping me will get some fun/joy out of it!

  8. Good luck, Susie…I’d offer to help but I don’t even live in the UK, let alone London.
Ah, well. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of prospective helpers.

  9. oh thats what happened to mine! it said ‘550 you are not allowed to send mail to ‘ …stupid address…well i will messege you from my dads email, hopefully it’l work! thanks!

  10. Hey Susie,
Looks like you have some very qualified people already volunteering their services, but I just wanted to drop a comment and say that I’ve been reading your blog pretty regularly and think it’s great. I’m studying in London, live right next to Holborn and if you ever need help in the future (somewhere to put stuff, errand help if you overbook yourself again or just a cup of tea heh), feel free to ask!
As I said, I think you’re doing a fabulous job with this blog. I’m a HKer in London too and even if I am doing a career orientated degree (asian parents eh?), I too am absolutely fascinated with fashion and truly admire the exposure and experience you have to/in this glittering industry (to give just one example- the visit to Chanel!!). I can only read about such things in magazines 🙂
    Take care,
    xx

  11. hi susie,
would looove to help now that my schedule has freed up and everything..but unfortunately flying over from sydney right now isnt exactly an option. (ooh..end of uni shopping spree…)
If you ever need a foreign correspondant Im here though. Best of luck.
    xo
Spread yourself wide but pack it with punch! Like pecks paste for example…

  12. hello susie… i see you’ve had lots of offers, but if your still looking for a someone, you recently helped with my questionaire and i’d be more than happy to return the favour. Im in the East and avaliable for both days

  13. Late coming, but just wanted to say THANK YOU – I had an overwhelming response with ppl even saying they’d do it for free! I’m really really grateful and I have now successfully found someone to help me out so it’s all good!
I was literally crying with being bogged down with so much work but panic over…. I’m ticking things off the list which is incredibly satisfying….
Once again…thanks so much… it really means a lot!

  15. I just came across this post randomly, but just wanted to add that if you ever need a fashion assistant again, I can put you in touch with my assistant in London, who I am sure would be able to help you out, and if not her, she/we cld recommend someone else.
There is a whole web of trained fash assts out there who us freelancers share. A gd fash asst will know all the PRs, & have a gd eye herself so will also be able to call in pieces on spec for you to look at.
And, frankly, if you are offering to pay even a minimal wage, that makes you the exception rather than the rule. (I mainly do ad jobs now I’m older so always have the budget to pay but it’s industry standard for assts to work for free on editorial shoots. Altho I was horrified by the friend of a friend who paid my lovely asst ¬£25 for three full days call-ins when she herself was being paid ¬£1k, and the asst had basically done ALL the work.) libertylondongirl@gmail.com LLG xx
