Whilst I was hot-footing it to Paris on Friday 30th November, a crazily calm (or calmly crazy?) affair was going on in Bermondsey. I don’t know about you but how badly do you want to see film of a surreal dinner party held at Zandra Rhodes’ penthouse, hosted by Natt Weller (son of Paul..) with guests that include Marios Schwab, the artist Andrew Logan, musician/DJ Bishi and Piers Atkinson, editor of the LFW essential The Daily Rubbish?
Other guests who sat down for dinner chez Rhodes were the wonderful Fred Butler, Barbara Grispini the consultant of the British Fashion Council and London Fashion Week and also the ceramicist Kate Malone.
Name-dropping aside, the film is directed by Ben Charles Edwards who has long worked on portraying the weird and wonderful world of Jodie Harsh and the film itself is also inspired by John Waters’ first bizarro film ‘Eat Your Make-Up’ as well as the 7th chapter in the book Alice in Wonderland about the mad tea party, hence the name ‘Chapter 7: Eat Your Chiffon’. I was supposed to be there to capture some vivid colourful moments and all the fun and frolics but Hintmag have done it better with their behind the scenes video. I wonder what conversations were going on, what sort soundbytes will come of the film and of course how ‘mad-hatter’ is this dinner party?
Fred Butler and Bishi // Natt Weller
The film will be released in three parts ONLINE (yes not a restricted to Londoner type thing) from January next year (check out Glassloves for details from 1st Jan 2008) and this is the first of a series of dinner parties with guests for the next one said to be ‘very special’ indeed. I’m slapping myself for not being there so will be sure to get to the next one to immerse myself in something beautifully bizarre.

I hate to say it, but isn’t all the fun of a great dinner party actually being there?
I would feel a little strange sitting watching, like I was involved.
This seems a little like Big Brother for the fashion elite, non?
(And therefore I might sneakily watch up like a guilty pleasure despite my reaction!)
I find dinner parties dreadfully dull regardless of whose they are, so I suspect a film about one would be equally dull for me I’m afraid. All a bit Big Brother as Stevie says.
Ah well…just me in the corner then with this one… perhaps I’m the only who gets tickled by Zandra Rhodes…!
I’m just terribly anti-social!
Why didn’t you go Susie? I HATE dinner parties because I’m lousy at small talk but I’d enjoy being a fly on the wall at this. Good mix of characters…I’m intrigued!
What a darling dinner party! Seems like an eclectic mix ;].
Great. Can’t wait to see more of this. Bishi especially is such an amazing girl, saw her live once, she’s very witty.
I look forward to see any other events you choose to cover, the next ‘very special’ dinner party. What a good excuse to get dressed up.
this sounds great!. . .
i think it’ll be more of an insight into the guests convos/minds/lives, rather than a ‘tea party big brother’
lookin forward to it
eeeeeeeee zandra, sometime in the long ago past a friend worked at her studio and we visited her house to pick up something, it was so dirty….
maybe they can do a scratch and sniff version;-)
I love that Zandra has stayed true to her personal style forever
haha that boy was in the year above at my primary school. How he’s grown!
I’m curious about Zadra rhodes too, all that pinkness must have a great effect!
i wanna see it!! i wanna see it!!
i thought that ben guy was a photographer? he does film too? 😀
