Make like a leaf and leave…

neckleaves.jpg

The humble leaf will probably be eclipsed by its more glamourous companion, the flower but I’m not about to ignore foliage either.  I came across these neck ruffs on Etsy, handmade by The Candy Thief and felt guilty for giving flowers so much attention lately what with my acidic floral experimentations and general flora gushing.  These neck ruffs are available for you to custom design in different colour wool blend felts with contrasting stitching to highlight the leaf shape however way you wish to.  I’m not abandoning warmth inducing neckwear yet seeing as my impending New York trip will be far frostier than the mild winter the UK is experiencing and with these ruffs being flannel backed, I’m hoping to be able to show off the ruff’s glory without too much cover-up with the full intention of totally supporting the cause of the leaf.  I also like the idea of echoing the colours of the ruff by wearing a poloneck (me likey the neck warmth….), dress and tights in a similar palette.

The colourways of these headbands also made by The Candy Thief remind me of the sort of earthy colour combinations that Marni really excel at.  These are also fully customisable.  The thing that I love about a lot of Etsy designers, and this might sound a tad hoity-toity, is the fact that you can make itsy bitsy demands like ‘No, that particular felt leaf needs to be THIS shade teal blue I say!’.  (Ok, not as DIVA-ish as that….).  Not many an opportunity to throw some of my design weight around on the high street at these sort of prices ($45 for the ruff, $35 for the headband)

You have my full support, good sturdy foliage…

  3. Yes, that is the great thing about indie craftmakers! I emailed one who makes adorable fabric flower hairclips (www.peachypan.com) and asked her if she’d considered making headbands (my hair’s too short to hold clips). Within a week of my asking, she had them up on her site!

  4. not big on the headbands but i’ve had the scarves on my favs list for ages- just the kind of texture/shape i like. the black and fuchsia pieces are quite nice.

  5. This inspired me. I made some with real feathers recently, but totally love the faux feathers

  6. love the leaf scarves, especially the customisable aspect, thanks for so much for sharing!

  7. I love leaf green and don’t really like pretty-pretty florals all that much, so these sound fab! I think I had a little felt applique shaped like those leaves on one of my dresses when I was a kid..

  8. I am a leaf lady all the way! Not keen on florals at all, but the lovely leaf always gets me hooked, and these ruffs are fab.
