Make like Anna Wintour and sit front row

Seeing as I’m working in a field completely UN-related to fashion, the chances of me going to a Balenciaga fashion show are pretty slim.  Is that going to stop me?  I am definitely gonna be blagging my way into London Fashion Week come S/S07.  I figure if you’re ballsy enough to act like you’re somebody, SOMEONE’s gonna fall for it eventually.

In the meantime however, there are shows that us mere mortals can attend without a) risking humiliation and b) having to suffer the insufferable of the fashion insider crowd.  Why, it’s the student shows of course!  Yes, they’re not exactly on the same scale as Lanvin or Comme des Garcons but for me, they could potentially be so much more interesting because you don’t have any expectations and it’s also a great way to keep an eye out for upcoming stars.

Royal College of Art will be presenting the collection from their graduating students of womens and menswear to the public on Wednesday 7th June.  (Christopher Raeburn, my favourite designer on Project Catwalk – UK version of Project Runway will be showing his graduate collection!)

Here are some of the graduates’ work from last year.

Central St. Martins have already shown their MA show at LFW but the BA exhibition will be open to the public from the 24th June to 1st July for everyone to see (gratis!).

However, the one I’m MOST looking forward to is the Antwerp Mode Show – a three day event showing the work of all 4 years of the students at the fashion department at Hogeschool Antwerpen.  I don’t think I need to tell you guys why I love Antwerp so much.  If you are going to go to any fashion student show this is THE one.  The designers here seem to be so much more willing to go to the daring places that other fashion schools wouldn’t.

Last year, Christopher de Vos won an assortment of awards at the Mode Show and now I have started seeing press attention on him already.

Here’s a selection of the kind of work to be expected at Antwerp:

All I can say is…….bring on June!
