The AFW Down Under

I must confess that my knowledge of Australian designers is scant, bar the ones that make it over to the four main fashion weeks.  Then I started to browse the Vogue.co.uk’s coverage of Australian Fashion Week and found myself liking a lot of things.  The one thing that strikes me is how wearable everything is.  Thus far, I haven’t seen a designer that has taken the conceptual to an extreme level or has gone for anything too risque.  Lacking in edge is not such a bad thing when everything is so covetable on a consumer-base level which is ultimately what keeps things ticking!  However some of it does end up looking a little, dare I say ‘high street’, but I think the mass appeal is comforting and easy on the eye.  If the big name designers in the Paris Fashion Week produced something like this, we’d be guffawing and yawning all over the place but somehow it’s rather charming in Australian Fashion Week.  Here are some of my faves and ones that I may watch out for!

Akira // Aurelio Costarella // Camilla Marc

Caravan // Charlie Brown // Gorman

Jayson Brunsdon // Kirrily Johnston // Marnie Skillings

  1. Great little summary, I’m just home from an Australian Fashion Week show – checked out the collection from Tight Knickers! It was a cool show, I’ll be blogging it tomorrow on Camarilla.
