Erdem on the rise

I love it when I see LFW designers ACTUALLY being worn by celebrities.  As much as I hate to admit it, a celebrity wearing an up and coming designer can do wonders (obviously dependent on the calibre of the celeb!) and can be an excellent endorsement.  The winner of last year’s Fashion Fringe competition Erdem Moralioglu’s profile is growing these days with his designs being worn by people like Claudia Schiffer at the BAFTAS and most recently, at the AngloMania Metropolitan ball, Julie Gilhart, creative director at Barney’s.  She wore this sepia coloured bird print dress which I think is a brave but apt choice.  I’m surprised that more of the guests didn’t take risks by picking lesser-known British/London-based labels, given the theme.  Is this because LFW designer dresses aren’t seen as red-carpet worthy?  In general, I think more celebrities should once in a while stick their neck out and stop wearing the usual suspects.  This applies to not just LFW designers, but lesser-known ones from all around the world.  Surely, you won’t lose any respect just because you’re wearing something isn’t so mainstream?  At least, you don’t run the risk of clashing dresses with someone else…..
