They do exist!

When I was at the ICA tonight, I noticed there were many women dressed to the nines sitting around me – a lot of ‘Sweetie darling!’ greetings and ‘Fabulous festival, isn’t it?’ comments were floating around.  There was also a lot of chat about a party after the film.  Turns out after the screening, there would be a Fashion in Film soiree taking place in the cool gallery bar at the ICA – something I could not partake in obviously!  Sure enough, as I was coming out, there were literally scores of fashion folk entering.  I’m not talking about the normal pretty Chloe top-wearing, ‘IT’ bag carrying fashionistas.  I’m talking about real fashion mavericks and risk-takers.  A woman was in a leopard print pony skin coat over a teal blue 1940’s Schiaparelli style suit, topped off with a pair of Miu Miu silver glitter platforms.  Another woman was in a jade green two tone silk tail coat with some slouchy boots and black tights – nothing else.  A girl in an oversized black cape jacket and skinny skinny tea stained jeans with some seriously kickin’ Vivienne Westwood tan buckle boots.  A lot of amazing 60’s shift dresses that weren’t retro-looking but chic as hell.  Oversized bows, crafty necklaces, mixed Missoni prints, Philip Treacy style hats and Ossie Clark dresses.  I knew these people existed but I thought either they don’t venture out during daylight or they resided in some secret London fashion enclave.

These photos are from an old issue of Street magazine, taken during London Fashion Week (outside the Natural History Musuem, main venue of the shows).  They represent what I witnessed tonight.

  1. Sounds wonderful. I wish there were eople that stylish near me. Also the pics are gret and I especially like the one on the far left of the bottom row. Her outfit is so fabulous.

  2. i think the concept of using photos from fashion editorials as the background of your own fashion spread is great =) i notice that you mentioned trips to hong kong several times in your blog entries. i will be making a trip to hong kong soon, if you know of any good places to shop there, could you please tell me? everyone mentions ladies’ street but previous visits there have been disappointing =(

  3. well, sooze.
sounds like you ran into your tribe last night. you should be hobnobbing with those folks . . .you style is unparalled

  4. xiaoqi: I will answer your questions via email!
Fash…(how did you know ppl call me sooze…!) I don’t really belong to that tribe! These were hard-core fashionistas who probably guest-edit Dazed & Confused in their spare time whilst championing young designers who live in cool warehouse conversions. As I was coming out, I did see a few like me, who looked miffed/misplaced to see all these ‘in’ people charging towards the ICA as us, the fashion-plebs were leaving. Ho ho…such is life…

  5. ok, im sure this is a silly ? but i have to ask. i adore those grey slouchy boots the girl in the dress has on, do you know were a non-fashionista may be able to locate them?
by the way LOVE the site!!

  6. Bubblecam was at home charging! Plus – doubt the fash pack would have taken too kindly to being papped by me!
Ering: I shall be on the look out for such boots but it’s the worse time to be looking for boots at the moment!
