Bigging up the Bags

Are London girls casting anxious glances over their bag-expenditure?  It seems everywhere I go, whether it’s smart office workers in the City or funky fashion students in Hoxton, it’s less of the designer label ‘IT’ accessory but more of the H&M huge leather frame, linen bag.  I did a H&M bag watch and counted 15 of this exact style of bag in Central London.  At £34.99, it is indeed very thrifty, but why the sudden rush to buy this bag?  Have I missed something?  Did Kate Moss tote it around a music festival?  Was it featured in Heat magazine?  I have not the fogiest idea…. 

With all due respect, it’s not THE nicest big bag to be found yet women here have taken to it with fervour.  THE budget-friendly supersize option for bags apparently.

  1. I quite like them actually! And they seems so veratile: you can use them as a briefcase, a beach-tote, an overnight bag or just a carry-all purse.

  6. They’re a bit bland, even if they are prada knockoffs..
    I’d like them more if they were made of tapestry / tweed / dare I say leopard print (I’m yet to jump on the leopard wagon, but I’m finding it harder and harder to resist).

  9. i bought the leopard variation. didn’t quite like the ralf lauren (blergh) feel to the linen bags.

  10. I think the bag is cute and bought one a few weeks ago. They apparently haven’t hit it big in New York: I haven’t seen anyone else wearing one. (But then, the general New York rule is that if you see someone wearing something you have, you must immediately retire that item to the back of your closet.)
