The Wendybird has surfaced!

It seems a bit old hat and it feels like I’m back-tracking but ages ago, I posted about how desperate I was to see the Ellen Von Unwerth film ‘Wendybird’ starring KIrsten Dunst and featuring Erin Featherston’s A/W06 collection (incidentally, her Typepad blog seems to be defunct which is a shame).  Anyhow, last night, miracles of miracles, a reader very very kindly emailed me the link to the surprise surprise, YouTube link to the film!  Hallelujah – it exists for us mere mortals to watch!

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of Ellen Von Unwerth’s photography work as it tends to veer towards the overtly sexy but I loved her editorials for Lula magazine.  Bar the soundtrack which I think could have been better and more smoothly edited, this is a dreamy little ode to Featherston’s unapologetically girly, frothy collection.  Kirsten Dunst does what she does best, looking playful and frollicking and I think it captures the essence of the collection.  "Wendybird" definitely leaves an impression of what Featherston hopes wearers of her clothes would feel.

  6. I remember reading the issue of Lula quite awhile back and seeing something about this Wendybird film. I was excited simply because a.) I think Kirtsen Dunst is fabulous and b.) The photography was breathtaking.
I found the film to be an irritating cheap shot at the art of cinematography. It was far too simple, boring, and rough. I expected much better.
But thanks for posting the video!

  7. i love this video, it could be more modest though haha. the uniforms the girls were at the begining and end remind me of my school uniform!! but cuter… i really feel like running around during lunch time in delicate black and white dresses now… and polka dot ballet flats that go with everything… this vid is very uplifting!! thank you so much for posting it!!

  8. i completely fell for it. i think it’s lovely. very true to Ellen Von Unwerth’s style too. and now i want frothy girly clothes again! i want everything, it’s hopeless.

  9. This is a real treasure. Even my 11 year old ‘fashion-junkie’ daughter thought is was fabulous. I was so sad when Erin’s blog closed down, perhaps she received too much publicity with her intro. into Vogue etc…

  10. Ohmygosh thank you so much for posting this! I thought the editorial in Lula was so lovely & adorable and I’m glad I finally got to see the film!
