New Day

layerpink1.jpg

It’s getting up to 25 degrees (that’s celcius…) today, Andy Murray beat Richard Gasquet last night (yes, I’m shamefully pleased…) and after my ponderings on missing the motherland, I got up and wondered why I had never worn my pink PVC skirt as a capelet thingy…. or in fact why I hadn’t done it with a lot of my skirts.  From missing the motherland to playing with skirts.  Homesickness doesn’t bother me a bit and yes, it is as easy as diverting my attention back to the more trivial things that makes the grumps go away for a simple being like myself.

It will be scorching but with layering firmly in my mind, these thinnish bits and bobs had to go together; American Apparel grey tri-blend racerback, vintage Escada skirt, Topshop Boutique sheer black tunic, vintage black leaf and silver thread top, pink PVC skirt worn around the neck, vintage black sequin arm warmers

P.S. Thanks for those that left some ‘Chin Up!’ words… the pink skirt around the neck may have come about because of you… you might not be so chuffed about that…. but that’s ok…

P.S.S. My legs are very battered up… in the crappy words of Natasha Beddingfield ‘I bruise easily’….

**EDIT** P.S.S.S. In my posting haste, I forgot the credit the originator of the skirt as capelet trick….originator being Dreamecho who did a whole series (1,2,3) on the whole skirt shape-shifting thing… get skirt-on-top happy people…

  1. I’m less concerned about the caplet and more concerned that in scorching 25 degrees you don’t have your wet knotted union jack hankie. How will you get your head cool?

  2. I love multiple strapped shoes. Someone told me that patent should not be seen before 6pm. I donned mine at 8am today. Breaking rules is great. xf

  3. PVC has kinda of industrial feeling and lace is delicate plus the motif of the skirt (i feel it like Chinese traditional Peony pattern). So, great combi!

  4. Aww your poor legs.
Maybe try wearing the pvc skirt like a flopsy clown collar with a voluminous dress in the same shade?

  5. I like the experimental layered you! glad its come back
I have a similar experience when I don’t go East
funny though when I’m actually there I dress pretty conservative in my terms but when I come back something definitely in the blood for wack style mixing.

  6. Oh my god, I did exactly the same thing yesterday! Then came home and decided I needed more caplets and started hacking skirts to make different layers and stuff.
It annoys me when people can’t see how good pvc is, everyone just thinks bondage gimps suits straight away 🙁

  7. i can totally relate to your legs i just moderately bumped my knee on my bench and it came up black and blue !
great idea, the skirt looks like it was destined to be worn as a collar/capelet/thingy.

  8. Oh my god that is so funny, last night I found so many bruises on my legs and got that shitty song stuck in my head. It’s nice to know I am not the only one who connects bruises to the annoying Natasha Beddingfield.

  9. omg! it’s getting warmer there!!
just when I thought I’d escape the humidity of the Far East in favour of Europe’s milder climate…
The PVC skirt as a capelet is a genial idea! I love it! you just really have to rethink ways of wearing your own clothes.

  10. why is it still so cold there? Anyway – i just wanted to say that you’re amazing and i’ve been following your blog for about a year now. we need people like you – courageous, with a fantastic fashion sense, smart, eloquent, etc, etc. I’ve been roaming around the blogosphere (?) and finally started one to help with the overwhelming emptiness of my summer vacation. It’s nothing right now… and I doubt it’s ready for anyone’s eyes but come check it out sometime- its just a collection of random thoughts spewing out the top of my head just like this comment i suppose… altogether too long as well…

  11. I love it!!! How do you do it, day in, day out Susie? You never fail to amaze and inspire me.

  12. I love the skirt worn as a caplet, it looks great with the rest of the outfit! I was very happy that Andy Murray won too – Gasquet was moaning so much about the lighting and the crowd, what a sore loser!

  13. Meh, what’s all this hammering on about the heat at 25 degrees? Sounds pretty damn pleasant if you ask me (coming from a resident of a 34-degree environment).
Susie, I love your pink PVC skirt! When I was younger I used to wear my wraparound skirts as capes (using the ties to make a bow of sorts for the neck fastening), but your way is cooler.

  14. Hey… In stockholm and responding from my phone… Dreamecho… I do remember your post but i wrote my post in haste… So couldnt find the links to your skirt post… But i actually had a goldfrapp video in mind when thinking about the floppy capelet ruff thing…. Will link back to you tho when i get back to london…

  15. i was trying to imagine how to make a cape for autumn and this is genius! i’ll be hunting for thick skirts now, thanks for the tip!

  16. Well, happy Hong Kong Day (July 1) or HK SAR Establishment Day, in the not-so-suave wording of our government. Not sure if the handover is something to celebrate, exactly, but it’s the only national day we have. Of course, the only two things people do on July 1 is shop and/or demonstrate (the pro-democracy march being conveniently placed in Causeway Bay).
Anyway, if you ever want me to pop to the Page One & get you magazines, send me your snail mail address & let me know.
I love your site, by the way.

  17. This outfit is one of my favorites from you 🙂
I love this idea, I think I’ll need to find some skirts that I can try this with!

  18. YAY!
your layering inspires me, sooo happy to see it again!
(the color of the PVC skirt may be adding to said happiness as well)

  19. 25 degrees!!! we are all rugged up in layers and layers of clothes when its 25 degrees, bit on the chilly side in brisbane

  20. I love it. It’s clothing for an outer space ice skating trip in the middle of summer. Also, this is maybe the lamest comment possible but it seems like it would be useful to wear on a rainy day.

  21. Thanks for all the comments by the by and yes, i should bloody smile more..but perhaps not 5.30am in the morning before a flight…

  22. i did the same thing with one of my big, frilly skirts a while back—except ended up taking it off as it looked like one of those neck cuff things clowns wear
