The grad-wearing IT girls…

As I was flicking through an issue of Tokion, KT Auleta’s photographs in the editorial ‘ Pow Pop Whizz’ and Timothy James Andrews’ clothes caught my eye pronto.  A 2007 RCA grad whose designs have been getting press aplenty, I’m a little miffed that I hadn’t written about him before.  Still, better late than never and his knitwear complete with chunky bangles are the sort of clothes that get people excited about knitwear or in fact, forget ‘knitwear’ as a label/tag and look at the pieces in their own right.  Yes, it’s all loud and in yer’ face but it’s not obnoxious because there’s genuine skill behind it.  Good thing that Andrews got an equally in yer’ face kinda gal to model his clothes.  I found these shots of Alice Dellal (it really isn’t my fault that she’s on here twice…. she is literally everywhere…) raunchily modelling Timothy James Andrew’s clothes…

Then I remembered another one of Dellal’s gang modelling some graduate
gear… Harley Viera Newton who apparently has a huge internet
following (that wooshed over my head…) has also dabbled in graduate
fashion modelling as seen here in David Bradley, a 2007 Middlesex
graduate who I’m keen to follow the work of.  I’m not as irritated by
the girls themselves as much as the way press like to bandy the word
‘IT girl’ about but without meaning to sound fan girlish and give off
any impression that I’m flocking to the feet of these ‘faces of the
moment’, I do think they lend the clothes a certain something seeing as
I THINK they’re both fairly into what they’re wearing.  That said,
Pixie Geldof for this year’s Graduate Fashion Week campaign somehow
didn’t work for me and felt a little forced so these grad-IT pairings
don’t always work out…

  1. I like the shoot she did for Timothy James Andrew’s clothes.. it’s smoking hot and makes me want to buy a crazy giant patterned bangle haha

  2. Those RCA grads are really something.
My fave RCA alum is James Long. His fetish collection really won me over.
Other than that, those ensembles you shared do remind me of an Eley Kishimoto meets Jonathan Saunders vibe.

  3. I like these–colorful and such awesome graphic print. Yes, the last two (Pixie?) don’t work for me…she look awkward, but not model awkward…
Oh, and you are GOING to be a hoarder when you get your own place? Aren’t you already a hoarder–of clothes at least? ^_-

  4. I love the clothes. The prints, the colors, the shapes, love it. It slightly reminiscent of Emilio Pucci with louder colors.

  5. i agree with the pixie comments, she look pretty awkward and doesn’t make me want to have though clothes. i hope we will eventually come to a stage where “genuine” celebrities (what ever that means anyway) will lose their engagement with the public and we can celebrate real entertainers and creatives instead of being bombarded with the images of a barely successful musicians daughter.
