Thankfully, I never had to do that dull intern-esque task that everyone is familiar with; making tea and stuffing envelopes. However, this weekend, I’ve had to do the flip reverse of that… which is opening envelopes. Inside, an A4-sized envelope, is another envelope. Inside that one, is a smaller envelope. Keep on going and you eventually unfold and reveal 26 envelopes stuffed inside one another like a Russian doll…
What purpose do these 26 envelopes serve? Flip them over and they reveal 26 different incarnations of the Chanel 2.55 bag. I was actually opening these envelopes as part of the very impressive and laborious Chanel Mobile Art press pack which I’m studying over the weekend for work as, Zaha Hadid’s 2.55 inspired exhibition and container is coming to London in June 2009 (New Yorkers will get to see it first this October…).
Putting it all back together again though is a little painful and I just wonder who at Chanel is responsible for doing such a task for all the press kits to go out to people…?
Stupidly, when I was at work and opening this envelope ‘Russian doll’ for the first time, I didn’t see what was on the other side and just thought they were a bunch of white envelopes and remarked ‘What is Karl trying to say? That fashion is an empty vessel?’… doh… they do look mighty pretty once flipped over though only a few of the bags are actually to my taste…

I have done a whole lot of envelope stuffing – it’s actually extremely therapeutic.

oh i love the idea! It would have been a pain to put them back if you had shuffled them!
wow…that’s really intense and i kind of love it.
what a fantastic idea! i love the colourful bags on the pure white paper
ooh, looks like there are some cute ones in there…
Such a fantastic idea, but you’re right that poor envelope stuffer – bet he/she had thousands of paper cuts after that project!
now that is NOT what i would expect in terms of an invite!! really different though.. hahah you gotta feel sorry for that poor intern.. geez, bless him/her.
and i must say, considering this exhibition is planned for 2009, theyre really early 🙂

Oh those poor envelope stuffers, hopefully not too many papercuts!
ooh clever Chanel! (But is it wrong of me to prefer the all-white ones?) I think that idea would make a lovely stationery set – each envelope could be a different rainbow colour with a sheet of notepaper inside!
ahahha this is cool! but it must have been such a labourious task. the eye popping colours are a delight.
i love this. love love them. how can i get a set of these beauts??
xxxx
Neat marketing gimmick!
god thats an early invitation for june 2009! and what a tedious job having to do that i feel very sorry for that person! can anyone go to this exhibition when its on or is it invitation only?
The Kaiser never stops with his ideas. I like this one.
I love this marketing gimmick! You have the best job; you get to study press kits?!?
My question to you is, how were you able to open so many envelopes w/o getting a paper cut? 😛
I can’t wait to see the exhibit in NYC. 😀
