The Two Mag Cakes

*Charity Advertisement Voice* Imagine a world…. free of magazines…. free of the shackles of going into Borders and browsing desperately to see if a new issue of something has come out yet and then buying yet another magazine just to satisfy a craving for something new….Imagine saving over ¬£500 a year and being able to walk into Dover Street Market and actually buy something substantial as opposed to a measly t-shirt…. imagine all of that and more…. *Charity Advertisement Voice over*

Ok that’s the silly scenario above is hard to imagine and actually I don’t REALLY want to be free of those shackles…. I love being shackled to my mags in fact!  However, it does seem like a new online magazine is popping up everyday to divert your attention away from Borders, if only that diversion lasted ten minutes.  A new arts, fashion and music title has just popped up with its launch issue; KVLT.  Hailing from where?  Singapore I tells ya!  I can barely get hold of physical mags hailing from Singapore so an online one is a real blessing.  People did tell me that Singapore isn’t really a fashion hotbed but I refused to believe it especially when there’s such a strong contingent of Singaporean fashion bloggers as demonstrated by Fashion Nation and Wottoncool.  Therefore, a magazine devoted to local talent in the fields of design, art, music and fashion is really quite a nice addition to my online mags link list.  I say this having just spent ¬£20 on mags this morning but hey, I’ll have my magazine cake for lunch and eat the online one for dinner…

Dhanank Pambayun’s wonderful digital artwork which graces the cover and has a feature inside the issue…

  1. talking about online magazines… i just happen to be interning at a hong kong magazine called Cover and it just went online too 😀 and believe it or not, i just finished writing an article ytd and there’s a small bit about this blog lol… will see if my editor approves haha

  2. wow, this is very good! one of my fave online mags so far! I like its tone… how it manages to stop its artiness from becoming too stuck up its own arse…

  3. nooo…. i wouldn’t want to live in a world free of magazines!
what a great find btw. i don’t get many mags from singapore but i quite like the “nu you” mags (they have singapore and malaysia editions). i don’t understand them but am quite happy to browse through their editorials and picks.

  4. It’s a good magazine with sufficient refreshing local content from Singapore to differentiate it from the masses. I really liked the artwork as well and appreciate what they’re trying to do.
However, it’s disconcerting that 2 of the guys on the team who attend my university dress like slobs and have a far from decent reputation. It’s hardly inspiring.

  5. Noooo! I didn’t want to know that my monthly magazine spend adds up to so much per year! I don’t buy as many as you, but een the monthly round of Vogue, Elle UK & US, Bazaar, Tatler sometimes, Grazia most weeks – it adds up. But if I didn’t buy them I wouldn’t know where to find the beautiful things to spend my money on…

  6. i’ve heard about this, but somehow i just haven’t. found. it!!! the awesome goodness must have been snapped up before i started searching for it haha

  7. I’m excited about the idea that this mag is all local designers, but those editorials look nothing like what I saw in China. Of course, I was everywhere but Singapore.

  8. this is amazing. there aren’t many magazines i would spend my money on in singapore, and i still think singapore isn’t exactly a ‘fashion hotbed’ – prolly due to the weather, but this is all kinds of amazing. thanks for the heads up! 🙂
