I feel like I’m encroaching on dear Imelda’s territory but seeing as he’s altogether quite taken up by Slavic beauties and boxes and boxes of designer shoe gorge, I’m hoping he’ll allow me the pleasure of posting these images of Liberty’s new shoe department… except who wants to use a dull name like ‘shoe department’…nay, it’s the House of Heels. When people send me emails asking about shops in London, the one department store that I have to always reccommend is Liberty and I’ve sung its praises enough but I’ll say it again… it is a unique interior space that instills a sense of calm in me and doesn’t make me fraught or sweaty (see Harvey Nichols or Selfridges…I blame it on the sheer number of shoppers…). This House of Heels is set up like a maze of rooms consisting of a boudoir-like drawing room, a ‘Garden Room’, a bedroom all fully furnished, housing shoes from all the expected bigwigs of Azzedine Alaia, Balenciaga, Miu Miu, Burberry, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen and two no-longer-up-and-coming firm Brit faves Nicholas Kirkwood and Rupert Sanderson…
I haven’t yet been for fear of losing all sense of financial stability when I get to the cash register and decide to take ten pairs of shoes at once but if I do, I shall hopefully walk through at a leisurely pace as the the name ‘House of Heels’ suggests I shouldn’t be harried through, doing quick-glances at shelves and then moving on swiftly because somebody behind you is silently willing you to get a move on (that would be you Selfridges…).
In particular I’ve eyeing these ones up as they are coming rather unexpectedly from Rupert Sanderson’s AW08-9 collection where he’s done a heeled creeper shoe… I am actually going to be buying some creepers for fall but I might be looking down at my own feet and look at these thinking my own creepers are somewhat the poorer, uglier cousin. We shall see whether that in turn gives something of a shoe complex… as if I don’t have enough problems at hand…

This is the stuff of dreams!
I’ll have to pop in to Liberty next week to see this in person. If I’m declared bankrupt I hold you solely responsible, Susie.
So pretty decorations! It seems like they’re back into 40’s or 60’s 🙂
And the shoe from last image is very very very cute!!!
I love the fact that it’s called a ‘House of Heels.’ =) It’s definitely well deserved because the shoes in the pictures you posted above do not deserve to be in a mere shoe department. I wish I had a store like this where I am. I hope I get to make it out to your corner of the world in my lifetime — because I will definitely go and check out that store! My credit card will definitely weep. Haha.
Today’s lesson is Imelda should double check the time difference when scheduling a post!!!! At least Kate was kind enough to send us different images…LOL
Perfect and spot on about the gorgeous experience of shopping at Liberty. I keep Liberty to myself for entirely selfish reasons and now thanks to your post am now figuring out way to sleep in the House of Heels in a mannaquin stylie without being sprotted and at night be a fairy and try all the shoes on.

SWOON! oh to be rich, or have the mind of that fabulous interior designer
Oh heck. Surely it’s damgerous to have such beautiful shoes in such beautiful surroundings!? I could never go, I’d never leave!
That magenta creeper adaptation is making my heart do palpitations!
Now that is my kind of shop. As the proud owner of over 100 pairs already I can safely say you can never have too many shoes. And it’s in London. I can even pop in and check it out for myself. House of Heels. Brace yourself!
I want that creeper shoe! It’s so fun.
God, I’m drolling over those perfect sky high pumps!
looks like the agent provacateur in vancouver! except with more shoes
Lovely, lovely shoes! Liberty is gorgeous and really individual store not just more of the same old, same old.
I love how they display their wares.
Such beautiful in such a beautiful space! Very bad for me. Very, very bad.
I surely want to visit, and when I do, I hope I can keep my senses about me.
Great post, Susie
I particularly like Kirkwood’s aesthetic.
i’m drooling over those shoes! imelda’s museum of shoes is put to shame. house of heels is THE museum of shoes!
wow the house of heels looks fantastic. i’m worried i might be slightly overcome with desire if i went. i rarely visit liberty anyway for that reason.
have you seen the heeled creepers in office? i’m still trying to decide if they’re hideous or amazing. i might have to buy them in order to make up my mind.
Susie, the creepers are amazing! I can’t find them on his website, is that where you got the pic from? I’m in Melbourne so can’t drop into Liberty, probably a good thing! Thanks
great collection… will like to visit there
girls must have some of them for a style statement..the pink and black checks combination gives a ramp look to a lady who wear it.. a very trendy and fashionable high heels…
As the author of High Heels and Ice Cream, I’m so excited about this store…an excerpt of my book, scheduled for publication later this year was previously given away in goodie bag at a shoe event at Selfridges in 2007…I can’t wait to walk through it’s doors as High Heels and Ice Cream is about a women’s quest for love that finds her re-inventing herself in a phenonomenal shoe shop…and not just any shop either…and there’s lots of sex – full orchestra, drugs and rock ‘n”rolling all over the floor as characters imagine dildos running around in their shoes…y’know how we do it in a London groove!
Your pictures are very artistic feeling. Hope you see my message to my website, can admire?
Interesting article. Were did you got all the information from… 🙂
Keep working ,great job!
