Get some lace on yer face…

I was absolutely gutted that I simply ran out of time to write for the 2nd year anniversaty issue of Fashion 156. Guy Hipwell the editor, was the first to spot the blog very early on a few months after the blog started and I’ve written in every issue since…except the current one!  Gutted actually doesn’t quite describe the feeling…..

It is just as well that I’m losing out on time because of course there are plenty of people who are more than capable of writing a Fashion Spy column and for this issue Simran Kaur has taken on the job and looking at her recent blog entries on the Fashion 156 blog, it seems ingenious DIY is in her blood.  I was floored by her beautiful face-lace pieces that she attached with eyelash glue.  Why shouldn’t the face be adorned in the same way as the rest of the body?  I’m thinking eyelash glue is probably more comfortable on the face than it is on actual eyelashes too.  Well Simran, I’m not quite letting go of the baton yet as I’m determined that I still get into the Fashion156 pie but thank you for giving a different twist to lace for this season because lord knows we need it what with the lace onslaught I feel we’re going to be bombarded with.

On an unrelated note I really am turning into an old battle axe who is feeling her blogging 2 and a half years… my newcomers and upstarts list has grown beyond ridiculous and they just keep on coming… to the ‘older’ generation of the fashion blogging world out there, do you ever get a bit overwhelmed by it all?  Let’s sit on a porch, sip some iced-Ovaltine and have a chat about it shall we?

  1. That is super cool! I can sympathize but I can’t really empathize with your “battle-axe syndrome” because I’m an upstart . . . heh heh . . .

  2. I can’t imagine the kind of breakout that glued-on lace would create on my face. Probably it would be in a pretty pattern.

  3. i LOVE this! definitely at the top of the ‘next time i go out…’ list. haha at iced ovaltine, i too am overwhelmed by all the new blogs, if only since i couldn’t add any more people to my links list and having to tell that to loads. time for a clear out maybe? it makes me wonder if there would ever be a time to stop!

  4. Love the look of the lace though, I can imagine it would make my eyes twitch!

  5. Oh sad to miss out – but you’ve got so much to do and don’t beat yourself up about it.
Plus don’t stress about the blog – keep making the posts as time allows and don’t worry about the rest! Know what you mean about the Ovaltine – cutting edge hey!

  10. It’d be an interesting thing to try around Halloween instead of donning a masquerade mask.

  11. I’ve been blogging for a year now and while I still feel like a newbie it’s amazing to me how many new blogs there are! I swear just this past week I stumbled across 10 new blogs who had only one entry! Talk about new…

  12. susie, you are irreplacable! i think there’s plenty of room for the new & old fashion bloggers. a lot of newbies lose interest after a few months anyways–I’m always being inspired by those “older and wiser” bloggers:)
    xoxo

  13. dearest susie
we missed your amazing pieces for our ANNIVERSARY issue, but when i read how crazily busy you were and heard you were moving, i kind of had to email and say: “Susie; you need to take a well deserved break.”
I think one issue missed in 2 whole years since we launched is not bad going! Fashion Spy is your page though, so when you have time……..
take good care and please look after yourself. xxxx guy

  14. At what point do you stop being a “newbie”? Heck, I’ve been reading fashion blogs for almost 3 years and writing one for almost 2 (though I am now on my second one, so you wouldn’t be able to tell) but I always feel like a “newbie”! Still, I suppose there is only so much one links list can take.
The lacy thing is great – a really intriguing twist. I really hope we aren’t bombarded, but I think you may be right!

  15. the lace over the face is so gorgeous… but like wendyb, i’ll probably break out 😀
and i’m so happy you talked about ovaltine. haha! do you like milo too?

  16. Oh, that looks beautiful. V inspiring! (From a new blogger, but hey, I don;t mind a bit of ovaltine from time to time!)

  17. I’m really not feeling this ‘lace on yer face’ look, but whatever floats her boat eh? I (and I’m sure a lot of other new bloggers) take inspiration from you more established and certainly wiser bloggers…so please never ever lose faith. Searching through your pages is what keeps me going when I think I am too busy, not good enough etc etc bla bla. LOVE you. Cx

  18. never woulda thought of sticking lace on my face… i do like the idea of tieing a lace sash over the eyes for the ‘masked ball’ feeling.

  19. *self-invites* I want some Ovaltine and I want to sit on your porch!
Am I considered part of the ‘older’ generation with 2 years of fashion blogging under my belt?
I am definitely overwhelmed… just had an email conversation with voodoo_mary from TFS, who told me the exact same thing.
I started Fashion Nation after being very inspired by your fashion diary and Style Bubble… sometimes I just like to reminisce about it all.
As usual, I end with the note… I hope to meet you someday, Susie (:

  20. i’ve been blogging for 2+ years too and no one seems to care. i like it that way. let’s sip on some malt.

  21. I have a lot of vintage handmade lace so I may try this…..someone should invent a template so you can paint over the top of it and it looks lace on your face, if they haven’t already that is…
    Lovely post 🙂

  22. Alas, I have no porch but I have a rather industrial looking balcony… no rocking chair either….just a bunch of cardboard boxes….let’s have iced ovaltine there….
Sorry about voicing my niggles…. recently been thinking about the lifeline of blogs….is there a definitive end… Lauren from Fops and Dandies said that every blog has a lifeline and I do wonder whether that is true or not…..just pondering a few things….

  23. wow that’s genius… you think it would be obvious to add a little lace to your face with a few snips of an old doilie and some duo eyelash adhesive.
i know what you mean about the aging blog thing… i’ve noticed so many new wonderful blogs coming up and it gets really difficult to balance between ‘improvement’ and just losing it all together.
that said, i find it’s what keeps me blogging. what keeps me interested in online media… because it’s going somewhere completely different, and it’s great to be a part of it.
    mmm… ovaltine… i love that stuff! but aren’t we in horlick’s country?
    😉

  24. I am one of the many upstart bloggers you speak of, and I also feel very overwhelmed by the sheer size of the community. However, I am finding that as I sift through them a manageable amount rise to the top as the best. That makes it easier. Your blog certainly falls into that category. Adding you to my ever growing links list… though I’m trying to sift through all the noise and only link the best!
