The Target Mission Begins

Brits buying stuff from Target isn’t exactly a difficulty.  What with the extraordinary pound-dollar exchange, getting something like a myus.com shipping account isn’t all that extravagant.  Still, nothing really has taken my true fancy and I’ve never really been truly arsed.  Until now of course.  Yes, those pesky Jonathan Saunders for Target pics are all over the blogshop and everyone has something to say about them.  Jaded Target buyers are declaring ‘It’s another boring Go International Target collection…’ but without seeing larger, more detailed images and going by the smaller ones, I personally think that Saunders has done an admirable job of transferring his aesthetic, a mis-mash of the past few seasons into a high street collection.  What he did for Topshop was more casual/print led than this affair which has concentrated more on use of fabrics and mix of textures… and given the prices which for us Brits is a godsend, makes it a bit of a bargain.

So the mission begins.  Four Target pop-up stores have showed up in New York for fashion week and so some lucky peeps will get their mitts on it but the stuff will go on sale in October online and in-stores.  Meanwhile, I’m over in drizzly London doing a raindance with a very battered Jonathan Saunders-inspired umbrella which I picked up at work as it was abandoned and my one piece of Jonathan Saunders in hope that come October, I’ll be successful in my mission…

  1. wow! this outfit is simply wow!! i love how you’re always sooo incredibly great at mixing patterns and colors. xo

  2. This is a perfect “Susie” outfit, not to categorize your style or anything… I love how well you mix colors/prints, it’s incredible really!

  3. I’m in love with the cardigan on the bottom right. Oh deer goodness, i have to have it! this is my fave target collection so far!

  4. I’m not a jaded Target buyer per se…
but I’m a bit wary having coveted a lot of the Go fashion items, then gone to Target tried them on only to realize the fabric was cheap in the most unflattering way (They sure like that awful thin satin-y fabric) and the cut is poor (but maybe it was just the Erin Featherstone and Alice Temperley collections.)
I think for the price point something gets lost in translation, and what would be a beautiful piece in different fabric ends up being a bit cheap and halloween costumey.

  5. Gorgeous mix of colours, as Style Eyes had already noted, it really cheered up the horrible weather today!

  6. I’ve been into target once myself and was pleasantly surprised by how cheap the prices were. I’d love to see this collection up close. Love the umbrella, by the way.

  7. wow very cool color combos and love the umbrella touch.
i’m stateside and i can purchase some items for you if you like, kind of like your little miss ups back at cha! (just email me what you want. 🙂
And in contrary to Chloe, i appreicate Target’s Go x designer combos for what it is. I wouldn’t usually purchase an Erin Featherson blouse and dress or a Libertine trousers on a whim, and that’s exactly what I did while shopping for beauty products and mags one day. I usually love to see what these designers come up with at the mass retail level. Plus buying on the whim, w/out having to splurge, leads to no regrets and merely compliments from co-workers! Yay for Target.

  8. My god, you are gorgeous! I love this outfit. So many different patterns, but it all works. Bravo!

  9. is there anything like myus.com but for the uk? there are tons of sites that i would LOVE to irder from that are in the uk but they don’t ship to the us. does anyone have any idea of something like that exists?

  10. Wonderous outfit! I’m going to come steal your umbrella too.
I like this collection–there seems more detail/attention to design in these than some of the other collections and I, for one, am excited.

  11. wow!!! this has to be one of my favourite Susie bubble outfits, the umbrella and print dress are so loverly together also your look so pretty.

  12. Jen who wrote it was like a giant drink umbrella, had be laughing. There, there, it doesn’t look so rainy in London to me.

  13. Oh and I’m glad I wasn’t the only person that saw the collection pics and thought, “hey, that’s not bad”. Though it could be a common case of pretty in the pictures, horrid in person. (That’s happened with one or two of these collections. . .). I’m just excited that FOR ONCE we’ve got something over here, fashion speaking. . . where we can go na na ni boo boo. (This comes from a girl who has longed for Topshop, Office, Liberty, Habitat for years mostly when she couldn’t get her act together and scramble across the ocean).

  14. Lovely! I bought the same umbrella only in black in Berlin recently and it’s absolutely beautiful.

  15. I haven’t a clue where the umbrella is from as there’s no make inside it…. anon at 17:21, perhaps you can enlighten ppl as to where your umbrella is from?
    Elle: I THINK it’s mid-Oct…no exact date yet…
    DSD: Yup…love my Muji tees…
Christina: Alas, the UK aren’t quick off the mark about setting things up things like that but most stores now ship internationally….Topshop namely!
It really has been shit weather-wise here… thanks for the lovely comments everyone!

  16. aww what a lovely umbrella to be abandonded! i really like the skirt youve got on and the colour of your tights are great!! really like the little printed jacket in his new collection yum!

  17. Susie,
I can’t wait to see what you buy and how you style it. I thought Richard Chai had the best GO collection so far. I am not ashamed to admit that I adore shopping at Target. I can’t wait to try on Saunders’s pieces and review them on my blog.

  18. Hi susie
I was excited about the Jonathon Saunders post, and today I finally made it in to one of the target outposts (called bullseye bodegas) and tried on a number of the jonathon saunders pieces. I was shocked to find how flimsy and poorly put together they were. They just looked cheap when worn. If I were only wearing them for photoshopped photoshoots maybe…
But i do love the way you put together your outfit and the umbrella.

  19. My son knew he needed to stop smoking. He’d just seen his father die at 38 from lung cancer. That was the spark that made him realize that smoking could literally kill him. Unfortunately, every time he tried to stop, he would yield to temptation within a few days. I looked at using a nicotine patch and nicotine gum, but didn’t want him to use either. For me, it seemed silly to take the same substance that causes the addiction – nicotine.
I searched for a natural and safe method to quit smoking: http://freshnewsday.com/stop-smoking.html
    How it works?
