A Morning Cheer…

In a continuous vein of feeling good about British style, I picked up Teen Vogue yesterday to find a particularly wonderful shoot; ‘Across the Universe’ shot by Nick Haymes and styled by Beth Fenton.  So both are from British stock but it was still surprising to see very very niche labels being used in the shoot, that could not possibly be accessible by most of Teen Vogue’s audience.  I’m thinking particularly of these Natasha Lawes butterfly and leaf masks available at Luna & Curious, which I got the chance to model for the Fashion156 shoot I did back in May.  A teensy tiny shop on Brick Lane that sells the most intriguing objects by independent artisans, who don’t have the usual PR machines working behind them, and these masks now make it to Teen Vogue, a sort of strange widespread exposure for both Natasha and Luna & Curious… I beam gladly at this sort of fashion globalisation.

  1. susie i think you wear that mask much better than either of those models

  2. wow, I can’t believe they’ve reached teen vogue! I like your photo better to be honest, it’s more colorful and edgy.

  3. agreeing with the others here…i love your shot waaaay more than the teen vogue one. what an amazing mask though.

  4. well, that is very amazing for them! from a small shop to a spread in teen vogue. <3 you look amazing with the mask on as well!

  5. I totally spotted that right away! I remembered your photo of that mask, it’s so gorgeous I could never forget.
Yours does look better in my opinion, it has more personality!

  6. i loved this! and did you see they used a louise goldin jacket in their editorial? It made me want one of her pieces even more!

  7. Wow…what a kooky coincidence! Last night I stayed up really late making this feathered mask, and here this post is this morning with the beautiful butterflies! My mom actually flipped through Teen Vogue this morning to see a bag I loved, and she came across this picture and showed it to me and offered to photograph my mask when I am finished with it! A few minutes later, Since I was still in the same room with her, I went online to check out all of the other bloggies, saw this and showed it to her! She posed a really interesting question: Do you consider it intellectual property theft when TV is (likely) inspired by your high profile fashion blog? …Or do you really appreciate the fact that you have an influence on the fashion world? It seems that quite a few trends have been Susie Bubble inspired, (i.e. the cage skirt) so I was wondering how you felt about all of it.
    Have a great day!

  8. I’ve always admired that pic of you with the mask on. it’s good to know that the small, great designers are getting the coverage they deserve- nice job teen vogue!

  9. ooh this reminds me of that facelace post you made…

I’ve always thought my face looked way to plain when i was done getting ready.
Bindis are a good temporary solution though.
